GCFD was out on multiple trees down and Powerlines down. Crews spent their evening cutting trees apart and opening up roads for you. We currently have a few power lines still down, barricades up and caution tape waving. PLEASE DONT CROSS THESE LINES!!!! They are there for a reason. The area behind these barricades are dangerous, hence why it’s blocked off. Please be aware of down Powerlines and trees. Stay safe!!!

The Galesburg Charleston fire department encourages residents to make sure Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) are turned on for their cell phones.

While the City of Galesburg and Charleston Township has outdoor warning sirens, those sirens are primarily designed to alert people who are outdoors. If you are inside your home or a building, you may not always hear them. Wireless Emergency Alerts provide another important way to receive warnings directly on your phone. 📱⚠️

Most smartphones can receive Wireless Emergency Alerts, including severe weather warnings and other urgent public safety messages. We encourage residents to verify that these alerts are enabled on their device.

📱 iPhone (iOS)
1️⃣ Go to Settings
2️⃣ Tap Notifications
3️⃣ Scroll down to Government Alerts
4️⃣ Make sure Emergency Alerts and Public Safety
Alerts are turned ON
(You can also enable Test Alerts if available.)

📱 Android (menu names may vary)
1️⃣ Go to Settings
2️⃣ Search for Emergency Alerts, Wireless Emergency Alerts, or Safety & Emergency
3️⃣ Make sure Extreme Threats and Severe Threats are turned ON

Taking a moment to check this setting can help ensure you receive critical emergency information quickly to keep you and your family safe. ⛈️🚨

The Galesburg Charleston Fire Dept is saddened to hear of the passing of retired city councilwoman Judy Lemon. Judy was involved in many things, well, everything. She served on too many city boards to count. Judy could be found out riding her bike, smiling and waving as you went by. If she wasn’t out on her bike you could find her at her home hiding in her oasis of flowers and lawnscape. Her presence in the city of Galesburg will be Sorely missed. City of Galesburg flags have been ordered to half mast to honor Miss Judy. Our thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family during this difficult time.
