We are gearing up to do a lot more for West Central Illinois - read here:
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monmouth, IL — United Way of Greater Warren County and United Way of Knox County Announce the Intent to Merge, Creating United Way of West Central Illinois. United Way of Greater Warren County (UWGWC) which is currently serving Warren, Mercer, and Henderson counties and United Way of Knox County (UWKC), two organizations that have served the communities of West Central Illinois for decades, are excited to announce their intent to merge into a single, consolidated fundraising organization: United Way of West Central Illinois.

For generations, both United Ways have been dedicated to raising funds and advocating for local nonprofits addressing the region’s challenges. The new organization will be positioned to continue serving the area more effectively and efficiently, ensuring a greater impact on local individuals and families in the four-county region.

In February of 2025, board representatives selected from both United Way organizations began exploring a merger to streamline operations and strengthen their collective impact. Galesburg Community Foundation supported this effort by providing funding that allowed them to hire LaPiana Consulting, who is respected nationally for their success in merger negotiations, to lead the merger discussions. Since that time, these representatives from both United Ways have worked together diligently on the details of the merger.

In May of 2025, both boards unanimously approved an "intent to merge" resolution, recognizing the significant benefits this partnership will bring Warren, Knox, Mercer, and Henderson counties. The four counties are more than connected geographically. Most organizations currently supported by regional United Way funding are already serving residents in the four-county area. The new organization will also now align completely with the Regional Office of Education, who also serves all four counties.

Completion of the merger is set for September 1, 2025. Both United Way boards have chosen Jeannie Weber, the current executive director of UWGWC, to continue her service as executive director. The newly established United Way of West Central Illinois will continue its vital mission — mobilizing the caring power of our communities to give every individual in the region access to a successful quality of life.

“There is strength and great opportunity that comes with collaboration and thinking regionally,” said Weber. “We are neighbors and friends. The collective spirit and generosity of our region is incredible. We intend to build on that, because now more than ever, embracing potential is vital to the success of small rural communities. Our area nonprofits play a crucial role in that. When we commit to working together, we are always more powerful.”

Until the merger is finalized, Weber will continue to serve as interim director for Knox County; assisting on a part-time basis with administration. All inquiries may be directed to Weber at [email protected]. Additional details will be provided in early fall when a milestone celebration is planned for donors, area nonprofits, and community members and the launch of the first United Way of West Central Illinois’ campaign.
