With Governor Lamont’s recent investments in Connecticut’s food system, it was great to welcome him to our Food Center to see first hand how the state’s investments are making an impact in our community. We appreciate the time the Governor and his team took to ask questions, listen, and engage with our volunteers, pantry programs and our staff.

On June 4, 2026, from 4pm-6pm, eighteen volunteers organized by Electric Boat's EQUAL group helped sort over six pallets of food at the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center. EQUAL volunteers are engaged and volunteer not only in June as part of PRIDE month events, but year-round! The June 4 event was one of, if not the largest EQUAL group yet at the Food Center. Many were return volunteers; however, several new volunteers were given a tour of the Food Center by Lamar Spruill, United Way's Community Impact & Volunteer Coordinator, prior to getting busy sorting the food donated by local retailers for the Food Center's 65-member feeding programs throughout New London County. 💛
