Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) training teaches 911 dispatchers how to recognize and manage medical emergencies over the phone while professional responders are being sent to the scene.
Dispatchers learn how to:
*Quickly identify the type and severity of a medical emergency.
*Provide lifesaving pre-arrival instructions, including CPR, choking assistance, bleeding control, childbirth, and other emergency instructions.
*Use standardized protocols to ensure callers receive consistent and appropriate instructions.
*Prioritize medical calls and dispatch the appropriate EMS response.
*Keep callers calm while gathering critical information.
*Recognize time-critical emergencies such as cardiac arrest, stroke, severe bleeding, and respiratory distress.
*Provide instructions and support until EMS arrives.
*Understand the importance of clear communication between dispatchers and field responders.
A huge thank you to Abbie & Andrew for spending the past week training our new dispatchers and preparing them for what to expect on both sides of the radio—Police, Fire, and EMS. Their knowledge, experience, and dedication are invaluable in helping our new dispatchers understand not only how to answer the call, but also how their work directly impacts the responders in the field.

This week was about more than learning protocols—it was about building teamwork, understanding the role of each discipline, and preparing our dispatchers to be the Critical Link between the public and the first responders who serve them.
