We have some cold days coming up next week and Elisha's House will be open Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night.

As the temperatures warm up, we will be opening less.

We will be open Monday night, March 2nd and then closed for the rest of the week.

We will continue to check the temperatures weekly and open if the low for the night is below 35 degrees.

Because of the warmer temperatures this week, Elisha's House will not be open Monday - Friday. We are watching the weather for the weekend and will announce the weekend schedule later in the week.

If you have ever thought about volunteering at Elisha's House, now is the time. Our volunteers have been serving faithfully during the recent winter weather, and we can use some help. You can message us here and we will get in touch with volunteer positions that are available. Overnight help is always one of our top needs.

Elisha's House is extending our hours during the storm. We opened today (Saturday)at 2pm and will open again tomorrow (Sunday) at 2pm. As usual, we will be open overnight for our guests who do not have a home or warm place to sleep.

Our volunteers have been amazing. They dug out of the snow to come help our guests who have nowhere warm to go during the day.

While everyone is looking out at a wintery landscape, I thought it would be a good time to share the purpose and vison of Elisha's House.

Elisha's House is a warming shelter for people who do not have adequate housing. Our guests are homeless. They sleep in cars, tents, abandoned buildings, benches, or right on the ground. Sometimes they can sleep on a friend's couch, sometimes they sleep outside.

We provide a light meal and a warm place to sleep on cold nights. We help people survive in hard situations in the winter months.

While we are thankful for the opportunity to serve as a warming shelter, we are not an emergency shelter. We do not have backup power. Our volunteers are just like everyone else and may not be able to safely get out in a winter storm. In case of a wide spread power outage or disaster, the city has an emergency plan. In those situations, Elisha's House works with the city to help in any way that we can.

We also do not have storage for clothing, blankets, food and supplies. We have what we need to take care of our guests. We operate out of a busy church that uses the building for many other activities. If you have those items, we recomend you donate those items to God's Storehouse, Willings Partners or Loaves and Fish Food Pantry.

During this winter storm, we have made arrangements for our guests that were in need of a place to go during the storm. They are taken care of. We plan to open at night, as soon as possible.

This bitterly cold weather is a good reminder to all of us to be thankful for our homes. We have amazing volunteers and donors that make Elisha's House possible. If you ever want to partner with us in this ministry we would love to get you involved.
