Hello all,

I’m excited to announce two major Para Standing tennis events that will take place at JTCC this winter! As a reminder, Para Standing tennis is a classification of adaptive tennis for people with physical disabilities who prefer to play standing. Learn more at https://jtccoutreach.org/parastanding.

First, we are excited to partner with Hanger Clinic for the FREE Introduction to Para Standing Tennis: Volunteer Training & Beginner Tennis Clinic! This will be held Saturday, February 17 from 11:00 am – 3:00 pm at JTCC.

Are you a player, volunteer, or coach that wants to learn more about what Para Standing tennis is all about? This free event is sponsored by Hanger Clinic is held in two sessions: a volunteer training 11:00 am – 12:30 pm with lunch provided after, and a beginner Para Standing tennis clinic 1:00 – 3:00 pm for players with physical disabilities interested in giving Para Standing tennis a try.

Registration is $50 for singles and doubles, and divisions will be created based on level of tennis play (self-selected by players after registration). Lunch will be provided Saturday and Sunday, and dinner will be provided Saturday night. A light breakfast will be available at the tournament desk each morning, and snacks will be provided.

This tournament is open to players who are entering their first tennis competition – beginners will have their own division and be supported on-court by JTCC volunteers to help with scoring and rules.

A Beginning

While I was still doing dentistry, I was talking to my now assistant Mike about his involvement in the “GerryHattricks” hockey program for the wounded veterans. Since I am such an avid tennis participant/ instructor/ fan , I was wondering why there wasn’t a similiar program for tennis. That was when we decided to create a program that would help our veterans learn the game that I loved.

Tennis is a game that can be a challenging as it is enlightening. It’s a perfect fit for those tramatized by battle and the conditions of war. It gives them a place of respite and solace, a place where the ”battlefield” is the tennis court. It tests thier resolve, but rewards them with a sense of accomplishment and bonding. Tennis is a part of the fabric of life.

Wounded Warrior Tennis strives to help those who have been willing to help in the service for our military. Let’s play this game.
