During a recent traffic stop for a driving violation, Gaithersburg Police Department patrol officers arrested a 36 year old, impaired driver after locating a loaded Smith & Wesson .38 Special revolver and suspected crack co***ne inside the vehicle. Further investigation revealed the driver is prohibited from possessing fi****ms due to a prior felony conviction.

The driver was arrested and charged with:
• Driving under the influence and impaired driving offenses
• Possession with intent to distribute CDS
• Illegal possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
• Additional firearm related violations

This arrest highlights the proactive work of our patrol officers in identifying impaired drivers and removing illegal fi****ms and dangerous narcotics from our community. We remain committed to protecting the safety of everyone who lives, works, and travels in our city.

📚Anticipate higher traffic volume along Route 355 adjacent to Bohrer Park between 9am and 7pm, TOMORROW, May 16 due to the Gaithersburg Book Festival. Plan your route accordingly. If you are not attending the event, consider alternate routes to avoid the area.

📚There will be many pedestrians in the area; please use caution. Crossing guards will be stationed along Route 355 at the intersections of South Summit Ave. & Education Blvd. to assist pedestrians.

On May 14, 2026 at 5:23 p.m., Gaithersburg Police (GPD) and Montgomery County Police Department (MCP) responded to a reported weapons offense in the area of Buttry Road. A caller reported a group of juveniles chasing two individuals and claiming to be armed with handguns.

The suspects fled on foot, but MCP Raven 6 (Drone as First Responder) located the group, observed them discard two backpacks, and directed officers to them. All suspects were taken into custody without incident. Raven 6 then guided officers to the discarded bags, which contained a loaded handgun and a replica firearm. No injuries were reported and there’s no evidence of a firearm being discharged.

One juvenile was arrested and charged as an adult with multiple counts of Aggravated Assault and Firearm Offenses. A second juvenile was arrested and charged as an adult with multiple counts of Aggravated Assault. A third juvenile was arrested and charged through Department of Juvenile Services with multiple counts of Aggravated Assault.

Outstanding teamwork between GPD and MCP resulted in a safe resolution to this incident and apprehension of three dangerous suspects!

🚨ATTEMPT TO IDENTIFY🚨

The Gaithersburg Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual involved in the malicious destruction of City property that occurred on April 23, 2026, at approximately 9:27 p.m.

The incident took place at the Gaithersburg Police Station located at 16 S. Summit Avenue. Surveillance video captured the pictured individual wearing a black shirt, blue shorts, and black shoes. The individual was seen kicking and punching the front entrance, causing significant damage to the handicap button and ID card scanner.

Anyone with information related to this investigation is asked to contact the Gaithersburg Police Department at 301-258-6400. Tips may be provided anonymously.

On Saturday, April 25 from 10AM to 2PM, residents will have an opportunity to prevent prescription drug abuse & theft by ridding your homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.

We will be at Gaithersburg Police Station - 16 S. Summit Avenue collecting unwanted/unused prescription drugs.

Can’t make it? We accept unused or expired prescription medications at its police station all year round. The Prescription Drop Box is located in the Police Station lobby at 16 S. Summit Avenue. Citizens may stop by seven days a week between 8 AM to 9 PM to drop off.

Traffic Violation Leads to Gun Arrest

Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police Department - Investigative Section are investigating a shooting that was reported in the 700 block of Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard in Gaithersburg.

On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at approximately 12:46 p.m., Gaithersburg Police and 6th District officers responded to the area of the Saybrooke Pool located in the 700 block of Saybrooke Oaks Boulevard for the report of a shooting.

An adult male victim was located suffering from an apparent gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time. This remains an active and ongoing investigation.

Investigators ask that anyone with information about this incident to contact the Gaithersburg Police - Investigative Section at 301-258-6400. Those who wish to remain anonymous may call the Gaithersburg Tip Line at 301-330-4471.
