Saturday, June 20, 2026 was a big day for Gus and Sabrina, our two sweet beagles, as they embarked on their journey to a brighter future with Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue Inc.

Their adventure began with our volunteer, Sarah, who accompanied them to the Gainesville airport where they patiently waited for Pilot Bob. Once everyone was together, it was time to get the pups settled, loaded up, and ready for takeoff. From there, they departed Valdosta and continued on their journey south to Florida, where a new chapter awaits them.

Most importantly, Gus and Sabrina are now safely on their way to a rescue dedicated to helping beagles find loving forever homes. We couldn't be more grateful for the teamwork and compassion that made this transport possible.

A special thank you to Rescue Me GA and Tampa Bay Beagle Rescue Inc for helping coordinate this lifesaving opportunity, as well as April (our Intake and Adoption Supervisor), our volunteer Sarah, and Pilot Bob for donating their time and efforts to give these deserving dogs a second chance. ✨❤🐾

HALL COUNTY GOVERNMENT ROLLS OUT NEW OPEN RECORDS SOFTWARE JULY 1

Hall County Government will launch a new open records request software on Wednesday, July 1, which will funnel Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests into a single, streamlined online portal.

“We have needed this program for a long time,” Board of Commissioners Clerk Jennifer Rivera said. “We are a large county and receive several open records requests daily, so this software will allow staff to work more efficiently to fulfill those requests and improve services to the community.”

The new software, NextRequest, is a public records request management platform developed by CivicPlus, Hall County Government’s website provider. The software is aimed at enhancing efficiency, compliance and transparency, while giving County staff the flexibility to manage requests, forms and workflows in a centralized location.

“Providing a simple, user-friendly platform that will make our open records processes easier and more accessible to residents is all part of being a transparent government,” Rivera said. “And since this new software is already part of the CivicPlus ecosystem, it will integrate with services the County already utilizes and will create a unified digital experience for both staff and citizens.”

Hall County currently uses CivicPlus Pay to help manage invoices and payments at its recreational sites, so this feature has been added to NextRequest at no additional cost to taxpayers. CivicPlus Pay will allow the County to issue invoices through the NextRequest portal and receive payments online using credit cards, debit cards and bank transfers.

“The other great thing about this program is that it is designed for ease of use. The entire process, from submitting a request to checking a status to making a payment, will now be managed digitally,” Rivera said.

NextRequest users will have the option to create an account for a more seamless experience that may speed up the process for those who submit multiple requests, but it is not required.

All open records requests, with the exception of requests filed with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office, Hall County Elections and the Hall County Courts System, will be submitted through the NextRequest portal. Requests submitted to the sheriff’s office, elections and courts system will continue to follow current procedures.

“For the majority of departments, citizens will no longer have to email multiple people to submit requests or check on requests’ statuses,” Rivera said. “This program will allow us to improve tracking, communication and response times, and is a true reflection of Hall County’s commitment to enhancing transparency and providing excellent local government services to our community.”

Open records requests using NextRequest may be filed through the Hall County website at hallcounty.org beginning July 1. Current open records request email addresses, such as [email protected] and [email protected], will be deactivated.

Meet Korra! 🐾

As part of National Microchipping Month, we're sharing a reminder of how powerful a microchip can be.

Korra arrived at Hall County Animal Shelter as a stray after being missing for 6 months. She was found by a traveler passing through Iowa on their way back to Georgia.

Because she had a registered microchip, staff were able to identify her family and help reunite them.

Stories like Korra's happen every day. One small chip can make a big difference!

HALL COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICES HOSTS 'MICROCHIPPING DAY' FRIDAY, JUNE 26

In honor of National Microchipping Month, the Hall County Animal Shelter, located at 1688 Barber Road in Gainesville, will offer half-off microchipping services on Friday, June 26, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

“If your pets aren’t microchipped, this is an event you don’t want to miss,” Hall County Animal Shelter Manager Stephanie Maloch said. “Microchips are a simple and affordable way to ensure your pet can find its way home sooner should it go missing. For one day only, until 2 p.m., we will be offering the service for just $10.”

A microchip is permanent identification technology that is about the size of a grain of rice and is implanted just beneath the skin between the animal’s shoulder blades. Each microchip has a unique identification number that is linked to the pet owner’s contact information, such as their home address and phone number.

“Animal Control picks up stray animals on a daily basis,” Maloch said. “The first thing we do when these animals enter our shelter is scan them for a microchip. Without a microchip, the animal is less likely to be reunited with its family, increasing the likelihood that the animal remains in the shelter system longer.”

In conjunction with Microchipping Day, the Hall County Animal Shelter will also honor half-priced adoptions as part of its “Adoption Pool-ooza” event. While supplies last, each adoption comes with a complimentary water toy for the animal. Additionally, all adoptable dogs will receive a pup cup as a summer treat and enrichment activity.

“We have big things planned for the day, including a special ribbon cutting, so we hope the public will take some time to visit the shelter, celebrate the day with us and spend time with our adoptable animals so that they can be that much closer to finding their forever homes,” Maloch said.
