Flag Day โค๏ธ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ’™, celebrated annually on June 14, is the celebration and recognition of the stars and stripes. It all started with a resolution passed by the Continental Congress in 1777, which called for an official American flag! ๐ŸŽ‰

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (May 7, 2026) โ€” Do your weekend plans include Downtown Gainesville? If so, your chariot awaits!

The City of Gainesville, Georgia, specifically Hall Area Transit (HAT), brings back the free Gainesville Trolley service from 5 p.m.-midnight Friday-Saturday starting May 8-Sept. 12.

"HAT reimagined the Gainesville Trolley operation to better align with riders' schedules and when ๐˜ต๐˜ฉ๐˜ฆ๐˜บ want a ride to downtown Gainesville," said Gainesville-Hall County Community Service Center Director Phillippa Lewis Moss, who oversees HAT. "The new schedule eliminates Thursday hours altogether, traditionally our slowest day for ridership, to expand Friday and Saturday hours later into the evening when more people are out and about.

"We're excited to see these small, but significant changes have an even bigger impact on Gainesville Trolley fans, especially those enjoying a late dinner or nightlife on the square, or even those attending a concert or performance at a nearby venue," she continued.

HAT has also included a new destination in the Gainesville Trolley itinerary for 2026 โ€” Cresswind at Lake Lanier, adding to the Chattahoochee Golf Club, Dixon neighborhood, Glenwood/Riverside neighborhood, Midland and Fair Street neighborhood routes. Three trolleys will service these routes โ€” one for Dixon, one for Glenwood/Riverside and one for all remaining routes.

Fridays and Saturdays now through Saturday, Sept. 12, catch the Gainesville Trolley between the hours of 5 p.m. and midnight in the neighborhoods below:

And if history has shown us anything, it's that hurricane impacts can reach far beyond coastal communities.

The Atlantic hurricane season stretches from June 1-Nov. 30, during which time NOAA is forecasting a range of eight-14 total named storms. Of those, three-six are forecast to become hurricanes, including one-three major hurricanes (category 3, 4 or 5). A typical year averages about 14 tropical storms, seven of which spin into hurricanes and three, into major hurricanes.
