DROUGHT PERSISTS

Lake Lanier- Gainesville Water Resources drinking water source- is still significantly low. Georgia's Environmental Protection Agency's drought declaration for the state is not due to just the lack of rain, but is just one of many conditions considered for the call.

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (April 28, 2026) ꟷ The City of Gainesville, Georgia is encouraging all water customers to be mindful of water use after the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) declared Monday, April 27, a statewide Level 1 Drought Response.

The EPD issued the drought response after monitoring climatic indicators and water supply conditions to assess drought and severity, states a press release issued April 27 by the state agency. Under current drought conditions, the outdoor watering schedule remains the same – allowed 𝘣𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘦 10 a.m. and 𝘢𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 4 p.m.

"Even with this week's rain, I think everyone has noticed how dry it has been," said Gainesville Department of Water Resources Director Linda MacGregor. "The Level 1 Drought Response calls for all of us to renew our efforts to be good stewards of our water."
