According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, several counties in Northeast Georgia, including Stephens, Hart and Franklin counties, are experiencing โ€œsevere drought...

GAINESVILLE, Ga. (April 28, 2026) ๊Ÿท The City of Gainesville, Georgia is encouraging all water customers to be mindful of water use after the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) declared Monday, April 27, a statewide Level 1 Drought Response.

The EPD issued the drought response after monitoring climatic indicators and water supply conditions to assess drought and severity, states a press release issued April 27 by the state agency. Under current drought conditions, the outdoor watering schedule remains the same โ€“ allowed ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜ง๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ 10 a.m. and ๐˜ข๐˜ง๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ 4 p.m.

"Even with this week's rain, I think everyone has noticed how dry it has been," said Gainesville Department of Water Resources Director Linda MacGregor. "The Level 1 Drought Response calls for all of us to renew our efforts to be good stewards of our water."

Visit the following Gainesville Water Resources webpage, available via gainesville.org, for more information about allowable outdoor watering activities, plus helpful water conservation tips: https://www.gainesville.org/QuickLinks.aspx?CID=162
