How they vote tells the real story. Is it a vote against something they know is good or are they so focused on voting against anything that Trump does that they hurt American citizens? SJ

There seems to be exactly one place in America where Democrat lawmakers suddenly have a problem with showing identification, the voting booth.

Think about that.

You need ID to get on a plane. You need it for banking. You need it to buy alcohol. You need it to pick up certain prescriptions. You need it to enter plenty of government buildings.

Nobody calls any of that oppression.

But ask someone to prove who they are before voting, and suddenly we are told it is “voter suppression.”

And the strange part is, their own voters do not seem to agree with them.

Poll after poll has shown broad support for voter ID, including among Democrats, minorities and independents. Americans understand something Washington pretends is complicated, elections matter, and people should have to prove they are eligible to participate in them.

That is why Democrats fighting the SAVE Act so aggressively raises a very fair question.

Their argument is that requiring proper identification or proof of citizenship will somehow make voting too difficult for minorities, women, lower-income Americans and people who have changed their names.

Really?

Do they think these Americans are incapable of getting identification?

Do they think women cannot figure out how to document a name change?

Do they think minorities are somehow too helpless to meet the same basic requirements everybody else deals with in everyday life?

Because I do not believe that.

If there are legitimate problems getting documents, fix those problems. Make voter ID free. Make the process simple. Help elderly voters. Help people with name changes. Help citizens who need records replaced.

But that is very different from pretending verification itself is somehow racist, sexist or oppressive.

At some point you have to ask why Democrat politicians are so determined to preserve a system with less verification when the public clearly wants more. (Content borrowed from the Federalist Papers) SJ
