The Gainesville Police Department is asking the public to avoid the intersection of Prior and Candler streets as crews work to clear a large downed tree and live power lines.

Motorists should seek alternative routes of travel until further notice as the area is currently impassable. Those unable to avoid or residing in the area are urged to drive carefully, follow all detour signs, and watch for workers and equipment during this time.

The City of Gainesville, Georgia appreciates your patience as crews work to reopen the roadway as quickly as possible.

𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘 | The scene has been cleared and evacuees OKed to return to their homes and places of business.

‼️𝗣𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘 𝗔𝗩𝗢𝗜𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗔‼️ | Local public safety officials are asking the public to avoid northern Dorsey Street as crews work to contain a slow gas leak from a propane tanker truck on site.

Dorsey Street between Jesse Jewell and Pearl Nix parkways is currently closed to traffic as the area, including nearby residences and businesses, has been evacuated. Those traveling in the area should expect Dorsey Street to remain closed for at least several hours and use alternate routes of travel.

Additionally, parents/guardians with children at the Center of Hope daycare at The Salvation Army, which has also been evacuated, should contact daycare administration immediately to arrange for their pickup.

Thank you to Primrose School of Gainesville for coming out to GFD Station No. 1 (Pine Street), where we had the opportunity to teach 5- to 12-year-olds about fire safety, firefighters and the important role public safety personnel plays in the City of Gainesville, Georgia-Hall County community.

Life Saved Through Teamwork

On July 3, Gainesville Fire Department C Shift crews responded with Hall County Fire Rescue on an automatic aid assignment to a residential structure fire at 3 Spring Street.

Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy fire conditions in an older mill-style home that had been converted into a duplex. As Engine 22 crew began their operation, they were quickly informed that a resident was still trapped inside the structure.

Without hesitation, Sergeant/Paramedic Danny Nguyen and Firefighter Asa Wheeler initiated a rapid primary search while Hall County Fire Rescue crews launched an aggressive interior fire attack. Moments later, the Gainesville crew located the trapped occupant on the main floor and successfully removed the victim from the burning structure.

Once outside, crews determined the patient had no detectable pulse. Firefighters and paramedics immediately began aggressive resuscitation efforts, successfully restoring a pulse within minutes. The patient was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center for further treatment and is expected to make a full recovery.

This incident is a powerful reminder that the fire service brotherhood extends far beyond the patch on our sleeves. The seamless cooperation between Gainesville Fire Department and Hall County Fire Rescue exemplifies the professionalism, trust, and commitment shared by both departments in serving our community.

Sergeant/Paramedic Danny Nguyen and Firefighter Asa Wheeler will be formally recognized by the Gainesville Fire Department with a Life Saving Award at a later date. We are incredibly proud of their courage, decisive actions, and dedication, as well as the outstanding work of every firefighter and paramedic who responded to this incident.

𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗬 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘, 𝗚𝗔𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗦𝗩𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗘 | The US National Weather Service Peachtree City Georgia (NWS) warns temperatures will rise ☀️🔥 over the next several days as high pressure settles over North Georgia.

A warming trend impacting the City of Gainesville, Georgia starts today (Thursday), June 25, into the weekend, bringing highs in the 90s and heat index values near 100 degrees by Sunday, June 28.

𝗕𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝘁𝗶𝗽𝘀:
• Drink plenty of fluids 🫗
• Stay in an air-conditioned room ❄️ and out of the sun
• Never leave children, the elderly and/or pets 🐱🐕‍🦺 inside a vehicle that's not running — cracking a window is not enough‼️
• Bring pets inside or ensure they have plenty of fresh water and adequate shelter (especially shade 🌳) from the elements
• Be mindful of the temperature of paved surfaces before walking pets as they can receive serious burns 🐾
