In honor of National Read a Book Day, I am reflecting on one of our most important legislative accomplishments: House Bill 1193, the Georgia Early Literacy Act.

Ensuring every child in Georgia has the foundational reading skills they need to succeed is one of my top priorities. As a sponsor of this bill, I'm honored to help give teachers exactly what they need to help our youngest learners become skilled readers. This legislation puts a reading coach in every K-3 school, supports an evidence-based approach to literacy, and provides critical resources for our students with dyslexia.

While I am incredibly proud of this step forward, I view it as just a down payment on the literacy initiatives I will continue to work on once back under the Gold Dome.

As our kids are getting back into the routine of another school year, I wanted to highlight a result that matters to me personally: my work as Chairman of the House K-12 budget. This $16 billion line item on the state's budget is the largest investment we make with Georgians' tax dollars. That funding touches 1.8 million students and their families across our state. It's a responsibility I take seriously on behalf of our students, our teachers, and school systems every day. Check out this video to learn more.

For 10 years, travelers up and down Limestone have expressed interest in a dedicated left turn signal when heading north and turning onto Beverly. By working hand in hand with the Georgia DOT, I was able to secure this turn signal. It was installed by GDOT engineers at the end of last school year. With three local schools in the immediate area, this will have a huge impact on safety for teenagers, parents, school buses, and our future drivers.

Each year during session, there are issues that arise that simply “feel too big” to tackle and get right during the 40-day Legislative session. That’s where study committees come into play: a chance to appoint a small committee of House members who gather to dig into the subject matter with diligence.

One of the study committees House Speaker Jon Burns appointed me to in 2026 is the Blue-Ribbon Study Committee on Transportation Infrastructure and Vehicle Regulation.

We recently gathered for our first (of five) meetings around the state. Our goal is to hear from experts from industry, nonprofits, healthcare organizations, concerned citizens, and the like, who can help us understand how best to craft future legislation.

I want to thank Jackson EMCfor opening their doors and hosting this study committee at their headquarters.

I look forward to continuing to work with my fellow House members on transportation and infrastructure issues during our remaining meetings this fall.

As our kids get back into the routine of another school year, I find myself reflecting on one of my favorite things about serving as your State Representative: seeing familiar faces from our community during Capitol field trips!

It’s always fun watching students discover our state's history, especially when they stumble across some of the more surprising and humorous exhibits. I look forward to seeing the students back under the Gold Dome this year. If you haven't brought your family down for a tour lately, I invite you to come see the Capitol. It may surprise you.

Honored to announce I have been awarded the 2026 Legislator of the Year Award from Georgia Life Sciences.

Georgia Life Sciences works to grow the state’s life sciences industry, everything from pharmaceuticals and biotechnology to medical devices and agricultural sciences, through partnerships that drive innovation, investment, and job creation.

I’m grateful for this recognition and for the chance to keep supporting the research and industry that improves lives across Georgia.

On Friday, I was joined by Oakwood, Georgia Mayor Lamar Scroggs, hundreds of members of the Hall County community, and countless Kroger executives and associates, for the grand opening of their new store in Oakwood.

The $50M investment to build this store, which covers 125,000 square feet and will employee 300 people, has brought quality new jobs to Hall County. And I was thrilled to see they are proudly carrying Georgia Grown products!

Finally, a huge shoutout to Kroger for their most generous contribution to The Georgia Mountain Food Bank at this event. A great company supporting a great cause.

As I stated during the ribbon cutting, Georgia is the number one place to live, work, play, and raise a family. People and businesses alike are flocking to our neck of the woods for good reason!

Earlier this week, I joined the University of North Georgia, faculty, students, community leaders, and poultry industry leaders (including Wayne-Sanderson Farms and the Georgia Poultry Federation) to celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Bob Lathem Complex and Abit Massey Poultry Instructional Center on the UNG Gainesville Campus.

The facility will feature an instructional classroom, laboratory, preparation areas, offices, restrooms, and support spaces. A centerpiece of the project is the equipment area, which is intentionally designed to replicate the operations of a modern poultry processing facility. Equipped with industry-standard feeding, watering, and monitoring systems, the space will offer students valuable real-world training in an immersive educational environment.

A huge thanks to Georgia Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, Senator Drew Echols, and Rep. Lee Hawkins for traveling to the 29th House District for this event, as well as Carroll Daniel for the partnership in building this amazing facility.

As I'm out and about in the district every day, I continue to hear "THANKS" from small business owners who are appreciative of what Georgia has done, and is doing, to support their entrepreneurial endeavors. Very thankful for the time with Rondis and the team at Cavender this week.

As we continue to celebrate Cavender 30, we thank our Georgia State House Representative Matt Dubnik for taking the time to stop by for a visit. We appreciate everything he does for small businesses in our community.
