The work of advocating for children and families involved in the child welfare system is powerful and deeply personal. Whether you are a volunteer, staff member, community partner, advocate or in the child welfare system yourself, taking time for rest is necessary.

September is recognized as Kinship Care Awareness Month, where caregivers are shown appreciation for their role in supporting children.

Kinship care offers youth in the child welfare system the chance to live with people they already know and trust (such as relatives or close family friends). This type of placement helps children maintain important connections to their family, culture and community, giving added stability and comfort in their lives.
