Check out this amazing video of a female alligator carrying her young from her nest to the water! Female alligators will often help young that show signs of struggling to hatch by offering them some gentle assistance. Who knew those powerful jaws could also be so gentle? So far this nest showed us 17+ hatchlings! Thank you to Theresa Walcott for sharing this beautiful moment!

Happy Star Trek Day, Sweetwater Fans!
Live long and prosper...by staying on the trails for your safety and the comfort of the wildlife!
And while we would like to tell you to "boldly go where no one has gone before", it's actually better in nature parks to stay on the trails. Creating social trails or spur trails can actually be damaging to wildlife and unsafe for fellow adventurers. Theses social trails can create confusion in other nature lovers as hikers may get uncertain and leave the main trail, becoming lost. Heading away from designated trails can also put you in areas with protected or endangered plants, animals, or interrupt breeding and nesting areas. And adding human scent or activity can send animals away from relatively safe neutral zones and cause conflict with predators, cars, or other nature lovers. Staying on the trails is kind of like following the prime directive. You don't know what your presence may influence. Live long...and stay safe on the trails while you enjoy your adventures!
