Established in 1987 to serve the counties of Alachua, Dixie, Gilchrist, Lafayette, and Levy, in North Central Florida. BMFB functions by acquiring, storing, and distributing food and basic essentials via the support of 170+ agency partners and over 500 community volunteers. We work to lead our community in the fight against hunger by increasing access to sufficient and nutritious food.

Did you know the food banks distribute more than just canned goods?

Last year, over 66% of the food we distributed was fresh and perishable:

37% fresh produce
22% protein like meat and beans
7% dairy and deli items

That’s alongside shelf-stable foods that help round out a meal.

We work every day to make sure families have access to balanced, nutritious food, not just canned goods. Because food is about more than filling a gap, it’s about supporting health, stability, and dignity.

For this Volunteer Spotlight, we want to give a special shoutout to our friends at Nationwide! This team joins us twice every month and is a constant source of positivity on our warehouse floor.

During their latest shift, the self-named "Spud Squad" sorted through bins of fresh potatoes to help feed local families in need. 📦🥔

Join us for our special Volunteer Takeover at First Missionary Baptist Church! 🧡

First Missionary Baptist has been faithfully feeding our community since 1996. Bread of the Mighty is taking over their mobile distribution on September 9th to give their dedicated regular volunteers a well-deserved break. We need YOUR help to make it happen!

If you’ve only ever volunteered in our warehouse, this is a fantastic opportunity to step out into the field, meet our neighbors, and experience community distribution firsthand.
