Thank you to Dawson County Government for hosting the GMRC’s Council Meeting this evening. Dawson County always does a fantastic job, and we appreciate their support of GMRC. We would also like to thank our program speaker, Marcie Kicklighter, Regional Tourism Manager for GA Department of Economic Development - Tourism Division for providing an informative program on the impacts of tourism in Georgia and North Georgia.

This week, GMRC Executive Director Heather Feldman represented the Georgia Association of Regional Commissions (GARC) at the Georgia Municipal Association’s Small Cities Conference in Gainesville, Georgia.

GMRC Planning Director, Adam Hazell presented at the conference on a session entitled “Planning for Change - Small Communities vs Big Challenges”.

GMRC was happy to host the Georgia Association of Regional Commissions (GARC) Economic Development Conference this week at Lake Lanier Islands. Sessions included Data Centers, Brownfields, Housing, and Disaster Recovery. GMRC’s own Senior Project Manager, Laurin Yoder presented a “success story” with the group on successful project development and management!

Thank you to the City of Gainesville, Georgia for hosting the GMRC’s monthly council meeting at The Boathouse at Lake Lanier Olympic Park. We would also like to thank Megan Conville with the Georgia Department of Community Affairs for providing a very informative program on Housing. It was a great evening, and we appreciate everyone who played a part to make the meeting a success!

Today, the GMRC hosted our 4th Annual Clerks’ meeting! We were joined by 30 city and county clerks from across the region for a morning of networking, collaboration, and learning. A big thank you to Dhruva Jandhyala and Jason Blackett from the Georgia Department of Community of Affairs’ GIS Department for providing an informative presentation on DCA’s new Annexation Portal.

We are also grateful to all of the clerks who have helped make this event a success year after year!

Who’s ready for baseball??? Team GMRC is excited about the start of baseball season with our annual Jeans and Jerseys Day! Regardless of whether we cheer for different teams outside of the office, Team GMRC is #1!!

GMRC’s Executive Director, Heather Feldman, had the honor and privilege to serve on a panel at today’s Appalachian Regional Commission Regional Workshop Series in Cartersville, GA. The panel was entitled, Partnering for Impact: Local Development Districts & ARC Projects. We appreciate our partnership with ARC and all of the other LDD’s throughout Appalachia.

GMRC in DC!! GMRC’s Executive Officers, Executive Director and Economic Development staff attended the annual Development District Association of Appalachia (DDAA) and National
Association of Development Organizations (NADO) conference this week. The conference had great topics including transportation, housing, innovation, workforce development, and sustainable growth. Opportunities like this help bring new ideas back to our communities and strengthen the work we do every day.

We also had the opportunity to go to the White House and Capitol Hill to meet with legislative staff of both Georgia Senators.

We had a great turnout for our first Region 2 City and County Managers’ meeting today! Thank you to Hall County Government for hosting and sponsoring our meeting. We would also like to thank Jason D***s, District Engineer for GDOT for being our featured speaker and providing a regional transportation update. Always a great day when we can collaborate together for the mutual benefit of our region!
