In the News Again!

The County Growth Management Area Charter Amendment continues to be a topic of contention in Alachua County for the smaller municipalities. If the manual recount on Friday morning passes in favor of the amendment, the city of Archer and Newberry have lawsuits ready to rule the amendment unlawful.

Due to the storm that is approaching Gainesville, the recount has been rescheduled for Friday.

Stay safe out there.

County growth management amendment requires hand recount

A difference of 0.22 percentage points requires the ballot measure to be manually recounted.

The machine recount of ballots has concluded today and the 'Yes' side of the growth management question is still in the lead, narrowly, by 293 votes.

However, there are approximately 15,000 ballots that the machine rejected. These could be ballots where a voter bubbled in both 'yes' and 'no' (overvote) or left it blank (undervote) or did something else that prevented the machine from tabulating the result.

This Thursday, the 15k ballots will be manually recounted by hand beginning on Thursday at 9:00 am at the Supervisor of Election office and we should have the final count.

Alachua County Growth Management Area Amendment ballots getting recounted!
Stay tuned!

11/08/2020

Today is the day. We have all the military ballots, the mail in ballots, and the provisional ballots. The Elections office will count those ballots and decide if there's a recount. We should know the outcome soon.

Regardless of the outcome, though, we want to thank everybody that helped spread the word about this issue. Without your support, without sharing your thoughts and the posts, without putting a yard sign in your yard, we think this issue would have passed easily.

All government is local government and you've proved that direct action works. Now cross your fingers and hope for a win!

City of Newberry leaders have been the most outspoken about the amendment, from running a campaign encouraging voters to vote against it to filing a lawsuit over the matter.
