The Florida Legislature has proposed a constitutional amendment that would make several changes to Florida’s property tax system, including homestead exemptions, non-homestead assessment limitations, and other property tax provisions.

The proposed amendment will appear on the November 2026 General Election ballot and must be approved by at least 60% of voters before any changes take effect.

The Alachua County Property Appraiser’s Office has prepared the attached informational graphic to help property owners understand the proposal and its potential impacts.

Current Florida property tax laws remain in effect unless and until the amendment is approved by voters.
