This a historical event needless to say. This siren will help warn people again as it has in the past. A little back story, this siren was used for many years to let the volunteer fireman in town know that there was a fire call. Citizens would call the Gainesboro Police Department number and the on duty officer would go and push a button to sound the siren, until fireman showed up to get in the fire truck. Its a thousand wonders if you didn't see some of our senior guys running to the station when it went off! 🤣
Technology has sure came along way for us, we now have radios and pagers, and alert app on cells phones to let volunteers know there is a call.

We would like to give a huge thank you to all the ones that was involved to make this happen!

Jackson County is under a FLASH FLOOD WARNING until 830pm. Please use caution when out traveling, especially in low areas.

Also remember do not cross water that is running across the roadway

FLASH FLOOD WARNING for central and southeastern Jackson County, western Overton County and northern portions of Putnam County until 8:30 p.m. CDT

Concern is increasing for the potential of flash flooding between Gainesboro and Cummins Falls with this strong storm that is nearly stationary. A solid 1-2 inches of rain has already fallen in this area with as much as 1-3 inches of additional rainfall possible. Flash flooding is either ongoing or could begin shortly, especially in low-lying areas along creeks and streams, in addition to other flood-prone locations, like poor drainage spots.

If you come across a flooded roadway, turn around, don't drown!

Did it rain near you recently? If so, you may be wondering why fire risk may still be a concern.

While recent rainfall has provided some short-term relief, most areas received less than half an inch over the past 48 hours. That is enough to temporarily reduce the risk of ignition in surface grasses and light debris, but it is not enough to recharge the deeper layers of the forest floor. Those deeper fuels, which have been drying out for weeks, have seen little to no recovery from this rain event.

Surface fuels may feel temporarily safer, but the heavy, deep fuels underneath remain critically dry and capable of sustaining intense fire behavior. With no significant rainfall forecast in the near term, humidity levels across Tennessee are expected to drop back into the low 20s this week, quickly erasing any gains made by recent rain.

Until a more substantial and widespread rainfall event occurs, elevated fire risk remains. Caution is advised any time ignition is considered. Stay informed and follow all local burn regulations before burning.
