🚧 Jackson County Road Update ❄️

Snow has continued to fall today and all roads across the county are already very slick. Conditions have reached the point where crews have started plowing, and we have trucks out working hills and priority roads.

Snow is expected to continue through the afternoon and evening, with colder temperatures overnight. There is also the potential for freezing rain later tonight, which could make travel even more dangerous.

Crews will continue working throughout the evening and overnight, focusing first on hills, main roads, and high-traffic areas while monitoring conditions closely as the storm progresses.

If you don’t have to be out, now is a good time to stay home and let crews work. If travel is necessary, please slow down, use caution, and give plows and salt trucks plenty of room.

We will continue to share updates as conditions change.

Stay safe, Jackson County. ❄️

I want to take a moment to share some information about my decision in this year’s election.

Jackson County will be holding a primary election for the first time. After careful consideration, I decided to run as an Independent and appear on the general election ballot. This is not a criticism of the primary process or of anyone who chooses to participate in it. I respect everyone’s right to run and vote in the way they feel is best.

For me, the role of Road Superintendent has always been about doing the job, not party affiliation. My responsibility is to maintain and improve county roads to the best of my ability with the funding available, and to do so fairly for every area of the county.

I will continue to focus on road safety, supporting our road crew, and taking care of Jackson County roads just as I always have. Politics don’t change how I approach my work, and they never will.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve Jackson County, and I ask for your support in the general election this August.

I’m excited to announce that I’m seeking re-election as Jackson County Road Superintendent.

It has truly been an honor to serve my first term, and I don’t take this job lightly. From day one, I’ve worked to keep an open-door policy and be someone the people of Jackson County can talk to and trust.

When I took office, I took an oath to faithfully perform the duties of this position, and I’ve tried to let that oath guide every decision I make. From the beginning, my goal has been to make the most out of every penny in the budget while doing the best job possible for our county.

During my first term, my priorities have been maintaining and improving our county roads, being responsible with taxpayer dollars, and keeping safety a top priority, both for our Highway Department crew and for the traveling public. I’ve also made it a priority to follow the Tennessee County Uniform Highway Law, letting the law, not favoritism, guide my decisions so fairness and integrity stay at the center of how we operate.

If re-elected, my goals are simple: continue being a leader you can trust, make the most of our budget, repair and maintain as many miles of county road as possible, and keep safety front and center for our crew and the public.

Thank you for the support you’ve shown me. I would be honored to continue serving Jackson County.

Daniel Garrison

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at one of the ways our Jackson County Highway Department keeps local roads in shape!

It was time to make cold mix once again this week! This process produces around 300 tons of cold mix and will last approximately eight months before we do it all again. Cold mix is not a permanent fix, but it’s the most cost-efficient way to maintain our roads with the equipment we have to work with.

It’s a costly process, but still the best and most practical option for filling potholes across the 491 miles of county roads we maintain. Our Highway Department crew does their very best to keep up with the ongoing demand of recurring potholes and keep Jackson County’s roads safe and drivable.
