Understanding what a memory care community is, and what it is not, can transform the way families feel about the decision ahead. Knowledge brings confidence, and confidence brings peace. 🌿

A few things worth understanding about memory care:
🍃 Memory care is a specialised environment, not simply a higher level of assisted living
🍃 Every aspect of the community, from layout to light levels, is designed with dementia in mind
🍃 Staff receive specific dementia training and are selected for both skill and compassion
🍃 Personalised care plans reflect who a resident is, their history, preferences, and routines
🍃 Families remain active partners in care, not passive observers
🍃 Engagement and meaningful activity are as important as physical safety and medical support
🍃 The goal is not just to manage symptoms. It is to support a good quality of life every day

When you know what to look for, you know what to ask for. 🌸

What a wonderful afternoon at Sage Park!

Today we enjoyed a special visit from Charlie Brown, a sweet and lovable dog who brought lots of smiles to our residents. We also had a great time with Susan, who brought table games and shared laughter, conversation, and friendly competition with everyone.

It was a fun, engaging, and heartwarming afternoon filled with joy, connection, and happy memories.

Memory care communities do far more than provide a safe place to live. They offer a structured, compassionate environment where every element of daily life is designed around the specific needs of someone living with dementia, Alzheimer's, or another form of cognitive decline. 🌿

For residents, this means trained staff, personalised routines, meaningful activity, and a setting that reduces confusion and supports a sense of security. For families, it means reliable communication, genuine partnership, and the reassurance that their loved one is receiving consistent, specialist care around the clock.

The more families understand about how memory care communities actually work, the more confident they feel navigating this important decision. This blog is a clear and helpful read. ✨

❓ FAQ: How Does Nutrition Support Residents Living With Dementia?

Mealtimes in memory care are about much more than nutrition alone. They are moments of routine, comfort, social connection, and sensory experience, all of which play a meaningful role in the wellbeing of residents living with dementia. 🍽️

From a physical standpoint, a well-balanced diet supports brain function, energy levels, and immune health. Certain nutrients, particularly omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and B vitamins, are associated with cognitive health and may help support the brain over time. Hydration is equally important and often requires gentle encouragement as the sense of thirst can diminish.

Beyond the physical, familiar foods carry emotional weight. The smell of a favourite dish, the texture of a well-remembered recipe, the comfort of a warm meal at a predictable time. These details are not incidental. In a well-run memory care community, mealtimes are designed with all of this in mind. 🌿

What an extraordinary day at Sage Park as we celebrated the 101st Birthday of William McKnight!

It was truly moving to witness the Jefferson Township Fire Department honor Bill with a special tribute, including the sounding of the fire horn and the raising of the ladder in recognition of his remarkable life and legacy.

We were equally honored as the City of Gahanna officially proclaimed “William McKnight Day,” making this celebration even more memorable for Bill, his family, and our community.

Our Executive Director, Tara Layne, shared heartfelt remarks about Bill’s life, accomplishments, and what a privilege it is to have him as part of the Sage Park family.

A special thank you to our generous community partners:
Suncrest Hospice for the beautiful birthday cake.
360 Hospice for the champagne toast.
TCT Therapy for the delicious charcuterie boards.

Thank you to nbc4 for covering this memorable occasion.

And a heartfelt thank you to our incredible Sage Park team for their collaboration, dedication, and support in making this event such a success. Your hard work and commitment helped create a truly unforgettable celebration for Bill and his family.

Happy 101st Birthday, Bill!

Nature has a quiet way of reaching people that few other things can. For residents living with memory loss, time outdoors is not just pleasant. It is genuinely beneficial. ☀️🌿

A few of the ways outdoor access supports memory care residents:
🌸 Natural light helps regulate sleep patterns and supports a more settled daily rhythm
🌸 Familiar outdoor sensory cues, birdsong, fresh air, warmth, can reduce restlessness
🌸 Gardens and green spaces offer a calm environment that is easier to orient within
🌸 Gentle walking supports physical mobility and cardiovascular health
🌸 Outdoor time can spark positive memories and make conversations feel more natural
🌸 Exposure to sunlight supports vitamin D levels, which benefit overall health
🌸 Nature-based activities like gentle gardening offer purpose, engagement, and calm
The outdoors is not a luxury in memory care. It is part of the care itself. 🌼
