**UPDATE 5/23 10:28pm**
Owner and pupper have been reunited! Thank you everyone!

*YAWN* Sorry I'm not more enthused Gahanna. I was woken from my nap to get out of the comfy seat which was most rude. If you know my mom or dad, have them give GPD or FCAC a ring... I'm going back to bed now! 😴

Here in Gahanna, we recognize National Police Week - a time to honor and remember the law enforcement officers who have given their lives in service to protecting others. On this National Peace Officers Memorial Day, we especially honor Officer Charles DuVernay who lost his life in service to Gahanna on August 4, 1982.

We are grateful for all of the dedicated officers of the Gahanna Division of Police who work each day to keep our community safe. Their service often requires personal sacrifice, and they stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice during some of the most difficult moments in people’s lives.

Please join us in thanking them for their dedication, compassion, and commitment to the safety and well-being of everyone who calls Gahanna home.

Peace Officers Memorial Day is May 15th and the week in which it falls is designated as National Police Week. This week we honor all peace officers who have died in the line of duty.

Every year we start the week by honoring the memory and ultimate sacrifice of Gahanna Police Officer Charles DuVernay Badge Number 27. Officer Charles DuVernay died on August 4, 1982, when he was struck by a vehicle while directing church traffic on Haven’s Corner Road. Officer DuVernay was a United States Marine Corp. Veteran and had served with the Gahanna Division of Police for two years. He had previously served with the Berrian County Sheriff’s office in Michigan for a year. Officer DuVernay was survived by his wife and two children at the time of his death.

Observances this week include local, regional and national ceremonies and events that honor all peace officers including services at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Washington, D.C. The wall features more than 19,000 names of peace officers who have died in the line of duty including Patrolman Charles C. DuVernay, a member of the Gahanna Division of Police.
