Wanda Johnson Cunningham passed away early this morning. Her husband, Bill Johnson, and herself built the Fun N Sun Motel and operated the Gage Artesian Beach from 1957 to 1972. Wanda recently celebrated her 89th birthday. She was a long time educator at Gage Public Schools too. Funeral arrangements are pending.

It is with a heavy heart that we must announce that the Gage Artesian Beach has officially closed for the season. We disagree with the decision but it is final due to a court order.

With that being said, Pat Jacoby is officially retiring. She has spent 24 seasons running the gem that we all know and love. It was a labor of love for her.

Pat Jacoby took over the operation of the beach in 2000 mid season. She has ran it day in and day out. The improvements over the years are from her hard work and diligence. This was Pat’s life. No matter where she went, she was always telling everyone about the Gage Artesian Beach.

Many people are aware that Needful Things Inc along with Pat Jacoby and Dub Wagnon have been battling the Town of Gage over the lease for the beach. Vendettas are never a good public policy.

Three trustees voted on May 11th to terminate the newly renewed lease for the Artesian Beach. If you wish to voice your displeasure, we are listing the contact information for the Gage trustees below that voted to terminate:

Dorothy Coffey
(580) 216-3300

Rick Morrissette
(580) 571-1903

Lindsey Good
(580) 334-9274

As a result of the termination vote, we made a decision to fight to keep the Gage Artesian Beach open during the summer. That fight came to an end Tuesday with the ruling by Judge Pat VerSteeg that she must vacate the premises within 48 hours.

We would like to thank every last one of our swimmers and patrons for their support over the years. We will miss you! We love you! And by all means, have a safe Labor Day weekend, albeit without us.
