Congratulations to Bryer!

Bryer Morrison of Etowah County made the Final Four in the statewide Young Farmers Discussion Meet held during the Alabama Farmers Federation Farm & Land Conference in Mobile Aug. 8. Discussion Meet simulates a committee meeting where participants discuss solutions to agricultural issues.

A veterinary medicine student at Auburn University, Morrison will compete for the state title, plus a prize package sponsored by First South Farm Credit, during the Federation’s annual meeting in December. As a finalist, he received a Turtlebox speaker from the Federation.

From left are Federation President Jimmy Parnell, Morrison and Federation Young Farmers Division Director Hunter McBrayer.

“When the student becomes the teacher.”

Bulls to Steers. We are glad to have Bryer Morrison home for the summer from Auburn. Yesterday he was able to teach Colton (high school student) how to castrate bull calves.

Colton and Bryer helped us work our cattle on our farm yesterday. Every bull calf does not make the pool to become a breeding bull. This is a management practice that keeps young bulls minds on growing rather than the ladies and fighting.

It was a cold morning at Rainbow Middle School today, but we were able to partner with Southside FFA and Fifty Shades of Hay Farm for the annual AG in Action event! Each year, we get together with the RMS 8th grade class to advocate for Alabama agriculture. We hope that the students learned something new today and are excited for the opportunity to enroll in an agriscience class at Southside High School next year!
