Today, the Etowah County Sheriff's Office joins the nation in remembering September 11, 2001 — honoring the lives lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, and the resilience that carried our country forward in the days that followed.
We say each year that we will never forget — and as first responders, those words carry a different weight. September 11 is a permanent reminder of what this oath truly means. When danger calls, we don't turn away. We run toward it. Not because we have to, but because we swore we would — and because serving others is not just a job, it's a calling.
As Sheriff Horton often says, "Serve all with a servant's heart." On September 11, 2001, thousands of servants gave everything they had answering that call. May we never forget their sacrifice — and may we always be worthy of it.
