What an amazing trip! We started in Rome then to Athens and cruised to Santorini, Ephesus, and Mykonos. Way too many pics to share. I fell in love with Italy and really want to plan a longer visit there and see multiple regions. I will say there is no place like and was so happy to get home last night and hug our kids! what are your favorite areas of Italy 🇮🇹?

Unpopular opinion :

You do not need the latest Harth n Hand release at Target! We live in an age of overconsumption, instant gratification, and disposable goods. It’s true and I’m just as guilty as you! We are constantly bombarded with the newest; must have items. I understand antiques and vintage decor is not everyone’s cup of tea, but I bet you’d be surprised if you took a stroll through an antique shop or visited an estate sale in your area! Even adding a pop of vintage can make your home feel warm, curated, and thoughtful vs a target run and done. And guess what you can save some $$$ too! Here are a couple of accounts I follow that do the hunting for and have wonderful finds for purchase! What are your thoughts? Is overconsumption out of hand?

People are always surprised when I tell them the story of Paul and I purchasing our home…. Let me preface by saying Paul isn’t (although I think he’s getting there) a fan of “fixer uppers”. His career is demanding and honestly turn key would’ve been so much easier! That said he indulged me. One Sunday I was scrolling social media and the previous owner posted a “teaser” that she was possibly selling her home, the Ballentine-Spence house. I had loved this home since I first saw it almost 16 years ago. So I said Paul let’s go look at this house, (I literally messaged her and said can we just come look?). Well we, rather I fell in love. I instantly felt a warm, welcoming embrace from the house. The massive wrap around porch, the old cricks and groans of the wood floors and banister were music to my ear! I had to have her! And 30 days later she was ours. It has not been all sunshine and roses and we’ve had so many hiccups (some major ones the purchase inspection didn’t reveal). I truly wouldn’t trade it though, I’ve learned so much and our home feels even more like ours, after going through the yuck to get to the good! We still have so many projects we’d like to tackle, but we aim to preserve the historic integrity, be financially responsible and make it a comfortable home for our family! Follow along to see what project is up next!

A little bit about our Home. The Ballentine-Spence house is an Historical Landmark built in 1910, located in the Fuquay Springs Historic District in Fuquay-Varina, home of Paul and Jessica Kaplar
This two-story residence was built in 1910 by James D. “Squire” Ballentine, one of the early civic and business leaders of the Fuquay Springs community. This is a well preserved late Queen Anne style house with Colonial Revival details.  According to Ms. Melinda Coleman, “It is one of the most substantial houses in the Fuquay Springs Historic District. The house was added to the National Register study list in 1990 and is one of the finest examples of its period and style to survive in Fuquay-Varina.” This was one of the first residences in town to have indoor plumbing and electricity.
The house stands on a .5 acre tract of land. It has 3,400 square feet of living area in 12 rooms including five bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, formal dining room, sitting room, parlor, library, and large center hall.
