We are grateful to receive a $14,876 grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation to support our emergency response efforts. This funding was used to purchase 4 sets of firefighting coats and pants that just arrived, helping ensure our department is better equipped to serve Fulton and Itawamba county communities. Thank you to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, our local Firehouse Subs restaurant in Tupelo, MS and the generous donors who made this possible!

A small group of firefighters from Fulton, Ryans Well, and Dorsey recently took the opportunity to train with Old South F.O.O.L.S. at New Albany’s fire training facility. The skills stations centered around task performance under limited manpower and included skills in ladder deployment, window rescue, Vent Enter Isolate Search (VEIS), oriented and split searching, victim drags, hose and nozzle handling, and forcible entry. The afternoon portion combined those skills into live fire and rescue evolutions where a 2-firefighter engine company and a 2-firefighter truck company had to force entry into a burning building, rescue a victim from the second floor window, engine company had to advance toward and extinguish the fire while the truck company performed unprotected searches. As a worst case scenario would have it, both companies ended up effecting rescues. A good day of fellowship with brothers and sisters from across the state as we all work to hone our skills. Many thanks to New Albany Fire for hosting and cooking some mean hotdogs.

🚩 URGENT: HEIGHTENED WILDFIRE RISK THIS WEEKEND

Mississippi, please stay alert! A combination of low humidity and high winds is predicted to create critical wildfire conditions across the state this weekend. Our current environment is particularly vulnerable due to:

🔥 Ongoing Dry Conditions: Soil moisture is low, making vegetation easy to ignite.
🔥Increased Fuel Loads: Debris and "dry fuel" from recent natural disasters (including the February winter storms) have created extra fodder for rapid fire spread.
🔥High Wind Gusts: Winds can carry embers up to half a mile, starting new "spot fires" far from the original source.

🚫 CURRENT BURN BANS
The following counties are under strictly enforced burn bans. No outdoor burning of any kind is permitted:
Alcorn, Hinds, Benton, Rankin, Marshall, & Tishomingo

This past Friday, we got to spend the morning talking to some 280 children and teachers from the 2nd Grade classes across our county. The countywide “Safety Day” included presentations on plants, wildlife, electricity, seatbelts and crashes, water recreation, severe weather, and several other life skills those bright young minds will carry with them forever. Of course, we were thrilled to teach about fire safety. Their sharp minds work fast so we were able to throw a lot at each group every 10 minutes. We covered how to call 911 for help, Exit Drills in the Home (EDITH), smoke alarms, and visible home addresses. It was a joy, as always, to participate in this again this year. It’s always a good feeling to see kids out and about and have them recognize you and mention something you said. Making a difference.

We recently had the honor of recognizing the tenured service of Firefighter Russ Gordon. There’s a rich storyline behind Russ’s many years with us, too lengthy to even begin here. Over the years he has served in various officer positions, committees, and really been a valuable utility player on our team. Russ loves the fire service and has a genuine care for the Fulton community. He has a long history that is still progressing in public service, and he has always been involved with opportunities that are larger than self whether it be the Boy Scouts, baseball coaching, church functions, Fire Explorers, and many others. Russ’s very successful and opportunistic full time career, along with his beautiful and growing family, have brought him to transition into a more informal behind-the-scenes roll with Fulton Fire. But that hasn’t come before we could award Russ with our first ever Servandi cm Honore award. The rough Latin translation of “service with honor” is also found in our department mission statement and is an archived nod to the statewide fire service contributions from our very own late Chief “Doodle” Pate, and more specifically his wife Ann who included the phrase in her logo design that still to this day represents a state agency. If you happen to see the Gordon family around town, they deserve a pat on the back and a handshake for all the times they loaned Russ to us. Stay safe out there brother, and we’ll see you around.

Dear Customers,

The water leak is repaired! We have low pressure in areas as tanks fill up. We are under a boil water notice until further notice. We hope to have clean tests back Monday or Tuesday.

We would like to thank the community for coming together and being there for our guys working the project site.

I would like to thank Utilities Supervisor, Brandon Sheffield, for his tireless nights and dedication to the City and our customers. His crew has been nothing but outstanding. I applaud them all.

There are so many others that came to our assistance, and that has not gone unnoticed.

Mayor Emily Quinn.

Fire Protection for Fulton Water System Customers:

As of 12:30pm the assessment indicates some areas may be losing water and the expectation is the water reserves will most likely be depleted before total restoration from the repair. Automatic sprinkler systems that protect occupied structures will not function appropriately, if at all. According to fire and life safety codes, a representative(s) of those facilities will need to designate someone to serve and patrol as a continuous Fire Watch around the clock, with the ability to notify 911 upon early detection of smoke or fire. Secondly, when the water system is restored there will likely be sufficient fluctuations in water pressure to cause fire alarm systems to activate. We will make every effort to respond to all fire alarms as quickly as possible. These sprinkler system and fire alarm functions are of highest concern for heavily occupied facilities including but not limited to nursing homes, assisted care facilities, hotels/motels, dormitories, manufacturing, schools, places of rest, etc. Fire departments across the county have been made aware of our need for their mutual aid assistance in the event of fire incidents.
