The Itawamba First Foundation presented a check to the Anchor Club of Mantachie. These funds will be used to continue the Brain Safety and Mental Health Awareness Campaign. To continue reinforcing Brain Safety awareness, Anchor members will present a bike safety presentation at the County-wide Safety Day, sponsored by the Extension Service. Members will share safety rules and explain how to properly wear a bicycle helmet. Attendees, second-grade students from all Itawamba County schools, will view the presentation. Each attendee will receive a bracelet with the logo “What Are You Thinking?” to remind them to wear helmets when riding bicycles or all-terrain vehicles. Anchor members feel strongly that promoting positive mental health is necessary to counteract the effects of poor mental health, as several area students have been affected. Anchor members will create posters with positive slogans for elementary and high school students, which will be displayed to share positive messages about mental health. Students in grades 7-12 will receive a bracelet with a positive message. There will be a “Wear Green” day for students in K-12 to promote positive mental health. Anchor members will distribute digital safety stickers to students in grades 3-6 to promote social media and digital safety, as students at this age begin using social media and can be easily influenced by the wrong message. By working together, we can make a difference in our students.

🌟 Connecting Classrooms to Careers: Industry Education Day 2025 🌟

Itawamba Agricultural High School hosted its first Industry Education Day, giving teachers a hands-on look at the real-world skills local employers expect from today’s students. The event was planned by Three Rivers Career Coaches at IAHS, Sandy Prestage and Gary Hamm, and was funded through a donation from Itawamba FIRST Foundation.

Approximately 50 Educators toured Toyota and the Walmart Distribution Center, then over a delicious meal at Romie's Grocery, heard workforce insights from Rep. Donnie Bell and Career Coach Manager Larry Boggs. The theme for the event was Connecting Classrooms to Careers and allowed teachers to gain first-hand knowledge of these two modern workplaces and connect classroom lessons to high-demand Mississippi careers.

Nearly every participant rated the day 5 out of 5, praising the unique experience and real-world relevance. One teacher shared, “I had no idea how many soft skills — punctuality, communication, initiative — are considered just as valuable as technical ability.”

Teachers left inspired to help students see the link between school and career success — and are already requesting future tours in healthcare, business, construction, law enforcement, and more.

With continued support from our school board, community leaders, and local industries, we’re proud to keep building bridges that prepare students for life beyond the classroom. 💛🖤
