We are currently caring for over 160 kittens in foster homes alone, and as we prepare for additional incoming waves of kittens, we are already stretched thin on critical supplies.

Every donation directly offsets our baseline costs and helps us continue providing life-saving care.

To help illustrate the need:

• 𝗞𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮 costs $120 per 4.5 lb bag, which is portioned into small supplies for multiple foster homes.

• We recently spent $130 just to restock 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀.

• Our 𝗦𝗻𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗪𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝘀 are fully out in foster homes and cost about $30 each. We need many more for incoming kittens.

• 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝘆 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 added another $150 in recent purchases.

• 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗱 𝗸𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 averages $1 per can, and we are currently distributing about 5 cases (12-packs) per day — around $60 daily just in canned food. While we have a food budget and can cover basic needs, specialty wet foods for underweight or picky kittens add additional costs as we try different options to help them stabilize.

• 𝗗𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 costs about $28 for 15 lbs, which is divided into roughly 25 single ziplock portions, and each kitten needs about 1 bag per week. We are able to restock our standard kibble on a routine basis so 𝗱𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝗻𝗼𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Today we had reporters from ABC4 Utah and FOX 13 News visit the shelter to highlight an incredible group of people who have been taking our shelter dogs on 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝗿𝘂𝗻𝘀 — with some pups covering up to 5 miles!

The group behind this amazing effort is Ogden Marathon Running Club. One of their club ambassadors, 𝗞𝗮𝘁, was inspired to create 𝗥𝘂𝗳𝗳 𝗥𝘂𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝘂𝗻 𝗖𝗹𝘂𝗯, a program dedicated to getting shelter dogs out for adventures. KSL and the Davis County Journal will also be sharing stories about this wonderful crew.

We feel incredibly lucky that these runners 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀 to give their time, energy, and compassion to. Every run provides so much more than exercise. It gives these dogs a chance to experience fresh air, explore new environments, splash in creeks, build confidence, and spend meaningful time with caring people. These experiences make a huge difference for dogs living in a shelter environment.

While we work hard every day to make our animals’ stay as comfortable and enriching as possible, 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 in their lives. We can never fully express how grateful we are for the people who show up for these animals, make them feel loved, and provide the daily attention they deserve.

We received some amazing personalized bookmarks, animal name suggestion cards, and supply donations from what appears to be a group of elementary school students! The welcome area was incredibly busy that day, and 𝘂𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘂𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗲 𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗼𝗿 𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗽 behind this thoughtful project.

It was so sweet to see these kiddos showing off their love for animals. The cute name suggestions will help us so much with how many pets come through our doors, and the donated supplies are already being put to use.

𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝗲 was a mother to 1. Her baby, named Solo, is all grown up and has now gone off to his new human family.

Mama 𝗟𝗼𝘂𝗶𝗲, around 2 years old, has since recovered beautifully from her spay and some dental work. She initially had an adoptive home lined up that ultimately just wasn’t the right fit, and that’s completely okay. Sometimes it takes a little extra time to find the home where a cat feels most comfortable and at ease.

She is INCREDIBLY affectionate, loves attention and gentle rubs, and will happily make biscuits the entire time. She responds so sweetly to calm voices and does 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿-𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁. When you visit her here, she is very kennel-forward and comes right up to greet you.

In a larger or busier home, she may feel a little overwhelmed at first and retreat to her favorite quiet spot. But in a calm home with someone who can give her a slow approach with plenty of love and attention, she has all the potential to blossom into a confident, outgoing kitty. 💕

🥳𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗘𝗗🎉
Dust mites! 🧹🐰 Out of 6 adorable stray buns that came into our care, we still have 3 waiting for homes.

Meet:
🌭 𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗻 𝗗𝗼𝗴 — Black male
🥖 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗸 — White male
🫘 𝗕𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝗽 — Dilute torti female

Sadly, 𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 is far more common than people realize. Bunnies are often purchased because they’re cute and seem “easy,” but they are a long-term commitment that requires proper housing, enrichment, specialized veterinary care, and daily interaction.

Healthy domestic rabbits can live 8–12 years. We don’t know these buns’ exact ages, but they appear to still be very young, likely under a year old.

Unfortunately, 𝗿𝗮𝗯𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝗲𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀 are highly specialized procedures that we do not have access to safely perform here at the shelter. 😕 We share the frustration of not being able to fix these buns to help prevent the breeding and dumping problem through spay and neuter services, but we do everything we can to help these little critters find educated, loving homes with people ready for the commitment and care they deserve. 🩵

Not only has 𝗡𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘁 had little to no adoption interest, but it’s also been difficult finding a suitable 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 home for her.

More than anything, we just want to see these animals out of the shelter walls. Whether it’s a temporary foster home or a lifelong home, being somewhere cozy, relaxing, and full of love makes such a massive difference for them.

🦮 𝗡𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘁 is suspected to have significant arthritis, and because of her discomfort we have to limit her activity here at the shelter. That unfortunately means she gets far less interaction with volunteers and visitors, since walks and movement are the main ways dogs get time with people here.

𝗡𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗲𝘁 is 6 years old, 48 lbs, and came to us as a stray. She’s now been with us for about a month. 👧🏼🐶 She has done well with kids she’s met so far and other pups in our playgroups, however she did not get along with a Chihuahua in a previous 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 home that tried her out, so if you have another pup then we would want them to meet at the shelter first. 🐈‍⬛ We currently have no information on cats.

Her name is 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹, but it should’ve been Grogu because all I see is 𝗕𝗮𝗯𝘆 𝗬𝗼𝗱𝗮. 😄
If those eyes and adorable ears don’t convince you she’s the one, I don’t know what will.

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹 is a shy girly at first because life feels a little confusing for her right now, but she warms up nicely with some patience and kindness. Her finder shared that during the time they kept her safe before bringing her to us, she was very friendly and did great with their 👧🏼👦🏻 𝗸𝗶𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝟯–𝟱.

𝗚𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹 came to us as a stray, so unfortunately we don’t know much about her past home life. In our doggy playgroup she tends to 🐶𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝘂𝗽𝘀, but that doesn’t necessarily mean she wouldn’t do well with them. She just needs more time for us to learn what kinds of dogs help her feel comfortable and relaxed. If you already have a pup at home, feel free to bring them by for a 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗳-𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝘁!

And if you’re someone who could 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 her while she waits for her forever home, that would be awesome! A 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 would help us learn so much more about who 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗹 is outside of the shelter environment. 🏡💕
