Email scams remain one of the most common tactics used by criminals to obtain personal information, financial data, and money from unsuspecting individuals.

Here are some easy ways to protect yourself:

• Think before you click. Don’t open attachments or click links on emails from unknown senders.
• Check the sender’s address. Scammers often use fake or look-alike email addresses.
• Watch for urgent or threatening language. Messages saying things like “Act now!” or “Your account will be closed!” are often scams.
• Never share personal information. Legitimate companies will never ask for passwords, Social Security Numbers, or banking info by email.
• Report suspicious emails. Delete them or report them as phishing. You can also contact the company directly using a verified phone number or website.

If you feel that you may have received a suspicious email and are unsure if a crime has occurred, do not hesitate to contact the Frontenac Police Department through the West Central Dispatch Center at 314-737-4600 and request to speak with an officer or have an officer respond to your residence.

The summer months can bring a lot of fun, but they can also be very dangerous due to the high temperatures that we experience on certain days. Along with the high temperatures, we can also experience a great deal of humidity, which can make the day even worse, especially for pets. The Humane Society has some tips that we should follow on days that bring excessive heat and humidity. Some of these tips are:

1. Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle: on a warm day, vehicle temperatures can rise quickly and get very dangerous. For example, on an 85-degree day, the inside of the vehicle can reach 102 degrees in about 10 minutes even if the windows are slightly open. After 30 minutes, it could reach 120 degrees.
2. Watch the Humidity: if the humidity is too high, animals are unable to cool themselves, which they try to do by panting.
3. Limit exercise on hot days: on very hot days, adjust the intensity and duration of a workout outside. If possible, try working out with your pet in the early morning hours or in the evening hours, when the temperature is not as high.
4. Provide shade and water to your pet: Any time your pet is outside, make sure they have protection from the heat and sun by providing some sort of shade and plenty of cold water. It is a good idea to give your pet ice if the heat index is high for that day.

Today, the Frontenac Police Department pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives while serving our country.

As Memorial Day weekend begins, the Frontenac Police Department encourages everyone to celebrate safely and responsibly. Whether you're traveling, attending gatherings, or enjoying time outdoors, please keep safety in mind:

• Don’t drink and drive — designate a sober driver
• Lock your vehicles and remove valuables from sight
• Be mindful of fireworks and follow local laws
• Watch out for pedestrians, cyclists, and children
• If you see suspicious activity, report it immediately

Our officers will be out throughout the weekend working to keep our community safe. Let’s all do our part to ensure everyone enjoys a fun and safe holiday weekend.

NO PARKING SIGNS

With Summertime quickly approaching, we are seeing more gatherings for Graduations, Holidays, and other family events, and we are seeing an increase in the number of requests for no-parking signs. As a courtesy to our residents, No Parking Signs can be requested and picked up at the Police Station to help alleviate parking issues on residential streets during gatherings.

To obtain No Parking Signs, our residents can complete a “No Parking” Sign Request Form, which can be located on the city website or by coming by City Hall or the Police Department. We do request that after the event is over, the signs be returned as soon as possible to the Police Department or City Hall so that other residents can use the signs for an event. These signs are in limited supply, so the return of the signs after an event is of importance

🚓🏍️ May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month 🏍️🚓

The Frontenac Police Department and NHTSA remind all drivers and motorcyclists to share the road safely and stay alert.

As warmer weather brings more motorcycles onto our streets, we encourage everyone to:
• Double check blind spots before changing lanes
• Use turn signals early
• Allow extra following distance
• Watch carefully at intersections
• Stay focused and avoid distractions while driving

Motorcyclists are encouraged to:
• Wear DOT-approved helmets and protective gear
• Ride sober and within speed limits
• Use headlights both day and night
• Stay visible and ride defensively

A little extra awareness can save lives. Together, we can make our roads safer for everyone this riding season.
