As summer approaches, the Friendswood Police Department is continuing our “Know Before You Go” series to help the community stay informed and safe. In this video, Officer Ives illustrates the difference between an e-bike and an e-dirtbike. We continue to remind the community that those caught riding illegal devices are subject to the vehicle being towed and parents being issued a citation in accordance with Texas Transportation Code 521.548 (parent/owner liability).

Our officers have noticed an uptick in children riding legal devices safely and respectfully. Watch the video to the end to see how we are planning to recognize those who are caught riding safe.

On Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the Friendswood Police Department invites the community to wear denim in support of sexual assault survivors and recognize the importance of consent.

Denim Week educates people on the local and international level that clothing is never an invitation for someone to be sexually assaulted. Clothing does not equal consent. Consent has to be verbally given.

Thank you to our local partners, Bay Area Turning Point and Resource and Crisis Center of Galveston County for providing resources for survivors and education for the community.

The Friendswood Police Department is proactively enforcing Texas state laws when it comes to non-traditional transportation. Many young citizens have been observed riding devices that are marketed as e-bikes, ignoring traffic laws, and putting themselves and others in danger.

Electric dirtbikes are not legal to be driven on the street or sidewalks.

Those caught riding any illegal device are subject to the vehicle being towed and parents being issued a citation in accordance with Texas Transportation Code 521.458 (parent/owner liability).
