What an incredible day! Yesterday I had the honor of being sworn in as Mayor of the Town of Friday Harbor, and I’m still feeling deeply humbled by the moment.

In the spirit of collaboration and healing past tensions, I asked County Councilwoman Kari McVeigh to swear me in. It was a symbolic gesture meant to show my commitment to working with our county partners as we move forward together. I’m grateful to Kari for graciously taking part in such an important moment.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support me and to all the people in our town who have encouraged me throughout this journey. Your kindness and confidence mean more than I can say.

I’m excited to get started, honored to serve, and truly humbled by the privilege of this position. Here’s to a new chapter for our community—one built on cooperation, respect, and shared purpose.

The latest results from the San Juan County Elections Office confirm that our campaign has earned the trust of a clear majority of Friday Harbor voters. I am truly honored to serve as your next Mayor and to lead a community that stands together and cares deeply for this island and for one another.

Our island family suffered a heartbreaking loss yesterday. Though I didn’t know him personally, I know many here did, and I want to take a moment to acknowledge that pain and the grief so many are feeling. In a town as close-knit as ours, every shared moment—whether in joy or in sorrow—strengthens our bond.

I want to recognize Emilio Santiago for running a thoughtful and community-centered campaign. Emilio’s passion for Friday Harbor and his commitment to our people made this process richer. I hope to find opportunities to collaborate with him, and with all of you who care so deeply about our island’s future.

I also want to thank the volunteers and supporters who gave their time, energy, and heart to this campaign. Your belief in me, and in what Friday Harbor can be, made all the difference, and I’m so grateful.

This isn’t just about celebration. It’s about responsibility—about standing together through every season, continuing to lift one another up, and doing our best for this community each and every day.

As we move forward, let’s honor those we’ve lost by continuing to care for this community as they did: with generosity, kindness, and love.

I promise to roll up my sleeves and do my very best to make you proud. Thank you for your belief in me and for the privilege of serving this extraordinary community of Friday Harbor.

I want to share my support of Evan Perrollaz for Mayor of Friday Harbor. Over the past 6 years I have come to know Evan through his work at the San Juan County Public Hospital District #1. Evan led the staff and residents of The Village at the Harbor through the pandemic with compassion and steadfastness. I have watched Evan lead the staff of the district to grow a home care program. He has excelled in his role as deputy superintendent for the district managing budgets, staff and caring for our most vulnerable. As a business owner, resident of town and an employee of the district, Evan knows firsthand the challenges our island faces. His focus on careful financial management, infrastructure and affordable housing will benefit not just the town of Friday Harbor, but all island residents. "After attending the recent mayoral candidate forum, it was clear to me that both candidates would be new political faces who were committed to getting and responding to public input. It was also clear to me that only one of the candidates, Evan Perrollaz, has the experience and ability to act on that input in order to lead Friday Harbor.

Evan’s years of work running senior care facilities and currently as a Deputy Superintendent in the Hospital District have given him countless opportunities that he has repeatedly seized upon to get things done and make real changes for people. That is a skill set that one can only learn over time. Friday Harbor’s government has been in a 4-year dysfunctional rut with a mindset that knows only how to say no or deflect. Evan, with his leadership and problem-solving experience, can and will come in on day one and change the entire tenor.

Though the crowd was smaller than the previous mayoral forum held by the League of Women Voters, it was still a full house at the Grange on Oct. 9, as islanders turned out to listen to the two school board contenders, as well as the two mayoral candidates. Both positions are non-partisan.
