Labor Day weekend is here and so is CHP’s Holiday Enforcement Period.

Beginning today, Friday, September 4, at 6:00 p.m. and continuing through Monday, September 7, at midnigt, CHP officers will be out in force looking for impaired drivers.

If alcohol is part of your weekend plans, make sure driving isn’t. Designate a sober driver, call a ride-share, or arrange a safe ride home.

A DUI is 100% preventable.

Buckle up, slow down, put the phone away, and enjoy the weekend responsibly.

Have fun, make good choices, and let’s make sure everyone gets home safely.

🧻 Cleanup in the #2 lane!

A shipment of toilet paper fell from a delivery truck along highway 99 … so if you’re missing your rolls, it looks like we found it.

Just a reminder: Even if the box says “Just Drop It In,” that doesn’t mean you should drop it on the highway. It’s not literal!

Whether you’re carrying one roll or hundreds, no “emergency” is too great to justify an unsecured load.

Definition: A traffic stop involving two or more drivers who independently make equally poor driving decisions at approximately the same time and place.

You guessed it… both were speeding together through traffic on Highway 99 at 90 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The speed limit isn’t a suggestion. Slow your roll.

Turns out the fastest route to the same destination was right past our Specially Marked Patrol Vehicle.

“Am I going to be on CHP Fresno?”

Well… since you asked.

Our officer saw this driver at 133 MPH with LiDAR. That speed earned him an arrest for reckless driving.

The traffic stop didn’t end there. During the investigation, we also located enough cannabis edibles to support charges related to possession for transportation and sales.

A reminder: 133 MPH isn’t “just speeding.” At that speed, your reaction time is dramatically reduced, stopping distance increases significantly, and a single mistake can have life-changing consequences for you and everyone else on the road.

Slow down. Drive responsibly. The goal is to get home, not become our next post.

🚨CHP ARRESTS ATTEMPTED MURDER SUSPECT🚨

On July 17, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Major Crimes Unit arrested an attempted murder suspect in connection with a freeway shooting that occurred on July 11 on State Route 180.

CHP detectives responded to the scene of a shooting on July 11 after gunfire struck one man traveling on State Route 180. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to his right eye and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center in critical condition. The suspect fled the scene prior to law enforcement's arrival. During the investigation, detectives discovered the victim was traveling with two additional adult male passengers when they became involved in a traffic-related altercation with the driver of a Honda Accord.

Following an extensive investigation, CHP detectives identified the man responsible for the shooting as Devin Shane Atondo, 23, of Sanger, California.

On July 17, at 12:30 p.m., Atondo was seen in the City of Sanger, driving the Honda, which CHP detectives believed was used in the shooting. A traffic enforcement stop was coordinated by CHP detectives, and Atondo was taken into custody. Atondo was booked into the Fresno County Jail on several charges, including attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon. Anyone with additional information related to this incident is asked to call the CHP Central Division Major Crimes Unit at (559)262-0400 or Central Valley Crime Stoppers at (559)498-7867.
