As the World Cup kicks off across North America, we’re reminded that every great team protects its home field. ⚽🌎

For North Kings GSA, effective groundwater management means local challenges are met with local solutions. By planning at the regional level, North Kings GSA can better respond to changing water conditions, coordinate with our member agencies, and prepare for both wet and dry years.

Success takes teamwork, strategy, and a long-term game plan. 🏆

🌎 For World Environment Day, we want to spotlight the North Kings GSA member agencies making strides toward sustainable groundwater levels.

Through SGMA-related projects like building recharge basins, installing meters, and developing surface water treatment facilities, these agencies are helping strengthen long-term groundwater sustainability.💧

Each effort plays a role in improving groundwater reliability, supporting conservation, and working toward a healthier environment for future generations. 🌱

June is Fresh Fruits & Vegetables Month.

Across the Valley, more than 52,000 acres of almonds, 31,000 acres of vineyards, nearly 15,000 acres of citrus, and thousands more acres of vegetables, peaches, and pistachios all depend on one shared resource: groundwater.

As fields and orchards grow through the summer months, sustainable groundwater management plays an important role in helping preserve water supplies for the future. Conservation efforts, efficient water use, and long-term planning all help support the ability to continue growing fresh foods here in the Valley for generations to come.

We're resharing our Growers Corner video featuring Marechal Vineyards to highlight how local agriculture is putting groundwater conservation into practice.

For this vineyard and winery operation, the recipe includes efficient drip irrigation, careful timing, and staying proactive with groundwater regulations and sustainability efforts. These practices help reduce water use, improve efficiency, and support the long-term reliability of groundwater resources across the GSA.

Sometimes understanding groundwater means getting a little dirty.

The drilling and soil sampling behind this new state-funded TSS monitoring well are helping North Kings GSA build a clearer picture of local groundwater conditions and fill important groundwater data gaps.

Thank you to the crews, hydrogeologists, engineers, and project partners like the Fresno Metropolitan Flood Control District and California Department of Water Resources who made this project possible and continue to advance groundwater sustainability efforts.

North Kings GSA’s new state-funded TSS monitoring well is now installed and will be used to begin collecting groundwater level data to help provide a clearer picture of groundwater conditions across the region.

Unlike agricultural wells, dedicated monitoring wells are built specifically to track groundwater conditions over time. The result is more reliable data, better tracking of groundwater trends, and stronger local groundwater monitoring.

This information helps North Kings GSA strengthen its monitoring network and make informed groundwater management decisions that support all groundwater users across the region.

💧 Kings Subbasin’s 2025 Annual Report is now available. While Water Year 2025 was below average, Kings Subbasin GSAs continued making progress on projects focused on preparedness for the future. 🌱

From expanding monitoring well networks to advancing recharge projects and supporting domestic well mitigation efforts, important work continued across the subbasin last year. 📈💦

As crews drilled North Kings GSA’s new state-funded monitoring well, soil samples were collected at different depths to better understand the underground layers and where groundwater exists. The team also conducted e-logging, a process that helps scientists get a clearer picture of subsurface conditions.

All of this information helps North Kings GSA improve groundwater monitoring and make informed decisions that support local communities, agriculture, and long-term water reliability across the region.

The better we understand our groundwater conditions, the better we can plan for the future.

North Kings GSA, in partnership with California Department of Water Resources, recently installed a new state-funded monitoring well that will be used to help track groundwater conditions across the region.

The new well will be used to collect groundwater level data continuously and in real time. It means you and anyone else will be able to see near-real time groundwater data.

This project brought together hydrogeologists, drilling crews, engineers, and groundwater specialists to better understand conditions beneath the surface and strengthen groundwater sustainability efforts throughout the North Kings GSA.
