Today marks the first day of hurricane season, and now is the time to get prepared — not when a storm is already approaching.

Take time today to assemble your disaster supply kit with essentials like water, food, medications, flashlights, batteries, important documents, and supplies for children and pets. Being prepared now can make all the difference later.

Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30. Fort Bend County residents are encouraged to review emergency plans, know evacuation routes, and stay informed throughout the season.

Be prepared. Stay prepared.

Thirteen years ago today, May 31, 2013, the Houston Fire Department experienced its darkest day.

A five-alarm fire at the Southwest Inn on the Southwest Freeway brought crews from Stations 51 and 68 to what would become the deadliest incident in HFD history. As firefighters worked to search and suppress the blaze, the roof collapsed, trapping crews inside.

Four firefighters were killed that day. A fifth, Captain William "Iron Bill" Dowling, lost both legs in the fire and passed away in 2017 from complications related to his injuries.

We remember Captain Matthew Renaud, Engineer Operator Robert Bebee, Firefighter Robert Garner, Probationary Firefighter Anne Sullivan, and Captain William "Iron Bill" Dowling.

They sacrificed everything. We will never forget.

🌊🚨 WATER SAFETY PSA 🚨🌊

Drowning is quick.
Drowning is silent.
And it can happen to anyone.

Most drowning victims don’t yell or wave for help. In many cases, they slip under the water without a sound. A moment of distraction is all it takes.

National EMS Week 2026 is observed May 17th–May 23rd.

First formalized in 1974 by President Gerald Ford, EMS Week™ was established to recognize EMS professionals and the critical role they serve in communities across the nation. National EMS Week brings together communities and medical personnel to honor the dedication, compassion, and lifesaving service provided every day by those on the front lines of emergency medicine.

This week, we proudly recognize the men and women who answer the call day and night, providing critical care when our community needs it most. We are also proud to serve alongside Fort Bend County EMS working together to provide exceptional emergency care to the citizens we serve.

Your commitment, professionalism, and selfless service do not go unnoticed.

Thank you for your courage, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to serving others.

Happy EMS Week from Fresno Fire & Rescue.

A new library is coming to Fresno, and we want to hear directly from the community.

Fort Bend County Libraries and our office are partnering to gather feedback from residents as this project moves forward. This is your opportunity to share what you would like to see in your future library, from programs and services to spaces and features that best serve Fresno families.

Join us on Thursday, May 28 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Boys & Girls Club in Fresno for this community town hall meeting. Residents will have the opportunity to learn more about the project, meet the architect, and provide input that will help shape the future of this library.
