Once an abandoned gravel pit, Frenchtown Pond State Park is now a local community favorite. The main feature is the small, spring-fed pond full of sunfish, bass and trout, with a maximum depth of only 18 feet.
Recreational opportunities abound on this 41 acre lot as people fish, swim, picnic, bird watch, kayak, canoe, paddle board and walk or jog the 1-mile long perimeter trail. Memories are made as families go ice fishing during winter. There isn’t a better place to practice and perfect your paddle sports before braving the Clark Fork river. Birders get lucky as they watch osprey and eagles dive for fish in the summer. It’s also the warmest place to swim, thanks to that shallow depth!
Community events are at the heart of this Montana State Park. Visit one of the many free interpretive and educational events for both youth and adults held each year. Junior Rangers can spend their summers learning about wildlife, nature, geology, history, culture and more during our eight-week long program. Families can attend one of our many evening interpretive events at the West Shelter to hear speakers from a variety of local organizations and backgrounds. Or you may just like to visit one of our special events held each summer - we do host a number of them.
