📢 **NORWAYNE ALUMNI & FRIENDS — TRAFFIC & PARKING NOTICE** 🚔💙💛

**September 5, 2026**

First and foremost, the Fremont Police Department would like to welcome everyone who will be in Fremont tomorrow for the **Norwayne Alumni & Friends events!** We hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable day as we celebrate with our community.

Please be aware that there will be **multiple events, temporary street closures, pedestrians, and increased traffic** throughout the morning.

🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️ **NORWAYNE ALUMNI 5K WALK/RUN**

The 5K Walk/Run will take place approximately **6:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.**

📍 The event will take place primarily between **Ballance Road and Pippin Street**, running south to north.

🚗 **NORWAYNE ALUMNI PARADE — PARKING & ROAD CLOSURES**

Parade lineup will begin around **9:00 a.m.** in the area of:

• Vance Street
• Johnson Street
• Chestnut Street
• Ballance Road

🚫 **NO DOWNTOWN PARKING** will be permitted in the following areas from 9:00 am until the parade is over:

• **100 & 200 blocks of East Main Street**
• **100 block of South Goldsboro Street alongside the businesses**

✅ Parking **is permitted along the railroad track side** of South Goldsboro Street.

🚧 **STREET CLOSURES**

Streets will begin closing to traffic at approximately **9:45 a.m.**

🎉 **The parade begins at 10:00 a.m.**

The downtown area and portions of the parade route will be closed to vehicular traffic during the event.

⚠️ **PLEASE PLAN AHEAD**

Please expect:

🚶‍♀️ Increased pedestrian traffic
🚗 Increased vehicle traffic
🚧 Temporary street closures
🎉 Large crowds along the parade route

These closures and traffic restrictions are being implemented to help ensure the **safety of pedestrians, parade participants, motorists, and everyone attending the events.**

We ask everyone to please **slow down, be patient, follow the direction of law enforcement and event personnel, and use extra caution when traveling through Fremont.**

☕️🚔 Coffee, Conversation, & Community! 👮‍♂️☕️

We had a great time at our recent Coffee with a Cop event at Prose & Provisions! Our officers enjoyed chatting with patrons, answering questions, sharing a few laughs, and, most importantly, getting to know more of the wonderful people in our community.

A BIG thank-you to everyone who stopped by and spent part of their morning with us! We also want to thank Prose & Provisions for hosting us in such a fun, creative, warm, and welcoming spot. ☕️📚

Events like this are a great reminder that community policing is about more than responding to calls, it’s about building relationships, having conversations, and being present in the community we serve.

We always enjoy the opportunity to connect with you, and we’re already looking forward to the next one!

BACK TO SCHOOL SAFETY!!!!

Wayne County's traditional school calendar begins Monday, August 24th, and buses will be back on the roads. The Fremont Police Department reminds drivers about the rules of stopping for school buses. Safety on our roads is our priority! We wanted to pause and remind folks about school bus stop laws in North Carolina.

Remember the following when traveling the roadways:
• Two-lane road – All traffic from both directions must stop
• Two-lane road with a center turn lane – All traffic from both directions must stop
• Four-lane road (no median) – All traffic from both directions must stop
• Four-lane road with a median – Only traffic following the bus must stop
• Four or more lanes with a center turning lane – Only traffic following the bus must stop

TIPS for the Road
° Carefully observe the reduced speed limits in school zones
°Remember that children are unpredictable in their actions: use extreme caution when traveling in a school zone.
° If there are no sidewalks, be even more alert to the possibility of children walking in the roadway.
° Slow down and prepare to stop whenever you see school zone flashing lights or markings, or the school bus lights flashing.

****Never pass a school bus when there are flashing red lights and the stop arm is extended. This is a sign that children are getting on or off the bus. Motorists must wait until the red lights stop flashing, the stop arm is withdrawn, and the bus is moving before they can start driving again.**********

The Fremont Police Department wishes each and every student a fun and safe start to the new 2026-2027 school year.

Let's get them off to a great start. Stay alert, yield to school buses, and watch for school children at the bus stop so we can keep our children safe!
