What exactly IS National Night Out?

Every year on a single evening, block party hosts throughout Fremont host a party for their neighborhood. Whether it’s a big ice cream social or a cozy cul-de-sac potluck, they all have the same goal: helping neighbors meet neighbors. Because a strong community is how we prevent crime and keep our city safe.

And your Fremont Police, Fremont Fire Department, and City of Fremont, CA Government staff love to join in on the fun! Parties that register on our website can request a visit from our staff, where we’ll share updates and meet everyone who came out to say hello. We may also end up playing your lawn games and taking some group selfies!

So, WHEN is National Night Out? It’s the first Tuesday of August, which this year is August 4, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.! If you’d like a visit from our staff, register online by July 1 at fremontpolice.gov/NNO. Only parties that register will be considered for a visit.

Can’t host a party but want to join in on the fun? The Fremont Main Library (2400 Stevenson Blvd) will be hosting a party that’s open to the public for National Night Out. This is a great alternative if you or your neighbors aren’t able to host your own party! More information here: https://aclibrary.bibliocommons.com/events/69e955bfbd5c392c76460218

We're grateful to have some National Night Out hosts who have been continuing the tradition for years in our city. If this is you, leave a comment to let everyone else know why you host every year and what you do to make it special for your neighbors!

Watch out for calls from scammers who pretend to be from reputable organizations! Criminals often disguise their number to get you to pick up—they may even show up as “Fremont Police Department” on your caller ID. They’ll claim that your information has been leaked, or that you’re part of an ongoing investigation. If they ask you to share personal information, confirm an account or transfer funds, don’t fall for it! While it may look like our official number, 510-790-6800, it’s actually a scam caller. The Fremont Police Department will never ask, solicit or demand money via a phone call.

When responding to an unexpected call, be careful with your money and personal information. Do not provide cash payment, account information or money transfers to anyone claiming to be from the Police Department, the City, the County, the Courts, or a government official. Learn more at fremontpolice.gov/scams.

Press Release: Rabid Bat Found in Area of Palo Verde Common in South Fremont

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Alameda County Vector Control collected a bat in the area of Palo Verde Common in South Fremont. On May 28, 2026, Alameda County Vector Control confirmed that the bat tested positive for the rabies virus. The bat was discovered near a sidewalk within reachable distance of pedestrians and animals; however, at this time, there are no known human or animal exposures associated with this incident.

Alameda County Vector Control is the lead agency investigating this incident and leafleted the immediate area where the bat was found. The County has provided the following information, which is helpful not only for this specific incident but also for general awareness of rabies and how it spreads.

Rabies is a fatal disease caused by a virus that affects the brain and nervous system. It is preventable if the exposed person or animal receives a series of rabies vaccine shots as soon as possible after exposure. Anyone who touched or may have been bitten by this bat should call the Alameda County Public Health Acute Communicable Disease Program at 510-267-3250 and should immediately seek medical care from a health provider. If your pet had any contact with a bat in this area, please call Fremont Animal Services at 510-790-6635 and contact your veterinarian right away.

Humans and pets should avoid contact with bats and other wild animals that can carry rabies, including skunks, foxes, coyotes, and raccoons. Unvaccinated dogs and cats are considered to be at medium to high risk of contracting and potentially spreading the rabies virus. If you find a sick or dead animal, do not touch it. Please report the behavior to Fremont Animal Services or the Alameda County Public Health Department.

Here are a few preventative measures you can take to reduce your risk:

- Vaccinate all dogs and cats against rabies.
- Keep dogs confined to your property, especially puppies under 3 months.
- Report animal bites of humans.
- Avoid feeding or handling wild animals, even if they appear sick or injured.
- Remove outdoor pet food, which can attract skunks and other wildlife.
- Eliminate hiding spots by clearing trash, woodpiles, dense vegetation, and hollow logs.
- Bat-proof your home by sealing any openings larger than ¼ inch, especially near the roof. Use ¼ inch mesh to screen attic vents and keep them well-maintained.

If you find a sick or dead bat in your home or yard, do not touch it. It is very important to avoid any direct contact. To report dead or sick wildlife, please call Fremont Animal Services at 510-790-6635 or Alameda County Vector Control at 510-567-6800. For any human exposure or public health concerns, please call the Alameda County Public Health Care Agency at 510-267-3250.

Press Release: Arrests Made in Recent Utility Wire Thefts

On May 9, 2026, several suspects cut down fiber-optic and coaxial cables in the 2100 block of Peralta Boulevard, causing approximately $50,000 in damage and disrupting internet, phone, television, and home security services for approximately 10,000 customers. Fremont Police Detectives followed up on the investigation and obtained surveillance footage capturing individuals matching the description of the suspects and their vehicles near the crime scene. On May 13th, suspects with matching descriptions returned to the area and stole approximately $5,000 worth of additional cable from the same location. On May 20th, the same individuals were observed by Fremont detectives engaging in similar conduct in other parts of the city.

Fremont Police detectives continued the investigation and subsequently arrested these suspects.

Detectives executed a search warrant on the suspect vehicle and one of the suspect’s homes as part of the investigation.

The four suspects are all residents of Fremont: David Elmore, Nicole Elmore, Eric Kosskela, and Marc Rice.

Based on the evidence obtained throughout this investigation, the Fremont Police Department presented this case to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney’s Office charged the four suspects with crimes, including:

PC 594 - Felony Vandalism
PC 487 - Grand Theft
PC 12022.6(a)(2): An enhancement based on the damages exceeding $200,000

Tinting your ride? We’re all for driving in style, but only when it won’t compromise safety.

Front windshield tints outside of legal limits can cause a safety hazard by increasing glare and reducing visibility. This makes it harder to see pedestrians, cyclists, and other drivers. It’s also dangerous during traffic stops, since it prevents officers from seeing clearly inside the vehicle.

Driving a vehicle outside of compliance can also be costly. If you’re caught with an illegal front windshield tint, you may be ticketed and required to remove the tint. Our officers are conducting enforcement of front windshield tint violations, so please take a moment to ensure your vehicle complies with state law.
