Today, the members of the Fremont Police Department pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country.

On this Memorial Day, we reflect on the ultimate sacrifice made by our fallen heroes—those who answered the call to protect the freedoms we hold dear and never returned home. Their courage, dedication, and selflessness will never be forgotten.

As a law enforcement agency, we stand in solemn gratitude alongside our community, honoring not only their sacrifice but also the families who carry their legacy forward each day. Also, if you see a veteran or a service member today, please thank them for their service to our country.

Please have a safe and happy Memorial Day!

Today, May 12, 2026, Sgt. Peter Bush, Officer Kevin Karn, Officer Salvatore Eaton, and Officer Joseph Bair will be recognized by the National Association of Police Organizations for their outstanding actions during a critical incident on September 21, 2025.

During the incident, the officers faced a chaotic and dangerous situation when a man threatened them and attempted to stab one of the officers. Through professionalism, courage, teamwork, and restraint, the officers were able to safely take the individual into custody while ensuring he received the help he needed.

We are proud of the way these officers represented Fremont’s Finest and our community. Congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for your continued dedication and service.

On October 1, 1962, John F. Kennedy signed a joint resolution of the 87th Congress establishing National Peace Officers Memorial Day on May 15 of each year. Police Week is observed during the calendar week in which May 15 falls.

As we observe National Police Week, please remember the brave law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. Fremont Police Officer George Joseph Biggs gave his life in the line of duty on November 3, 1948.

We ask our community to join us in honoring his memory, along with all officers who have given and continue to risk their lives each day to protect and serve others.

Mayor Danny Sanchez, Fremont City Schools, and our Community Relations Commission are working hard to provide important public safety information to our students and families regarding e-bikes, bicycles, and electric scooters, as concerns continue to grow within our community.

The Fremont Police Department will be enforcing applicable laws during routine patrols, while School Resource Officers will be working directly with students and schools to provide education and awareness. In addition, a social media outreach campaign will take place over the next month to help spread information to the public and encourage everyone to follow local and state laws.

Our shared goal is to promote safety, increase awareness, and help prevent a serious accident in our community.
