Last night, we witnessed a beautiful lunar eclipse! Thank you to the nearly 40 visitors who joined us to view this awesome event. We had clear skies and captured these images with an 80mm refractor and a Zwo ASI 178 mc camera.

The weather is looking wonderful for the lunar eclipse tonight! Join us at 8:30 at the Doug Firebaugh Observatory for a short presentation and stick around for viewing the eclipse through telescopes! 🔭

Don't forget to bring lawn chairs for your viewing comfort!

A near-total lunar eclipse will be visible tonight and the weather across the region will be fantastic for viewing!

THIS THURSDAY: We'll have telescopes set up for viewing the eclipse! Join us at 8:30pm for a short presentation to explain what we expect to see. See you there!

LUNAR ECLIPSE: The lunar eclipse occurring on August 27/28, 2026 is a partial eclipse that will see 96% of the Moon in Earth’s umbral shadow.

Weather permitting, the Firebaugh Observatory will be open to view the event starting at 8:30pm with a presentation to explain the eclipse and what we expect to see.

🔭 There will be telescopes set up for viewing the eclipse. You may want to bring your own lawn chair to relax and enjoy the event. Hope to see you there!

ICYMI: Earlier this summer, observatory staff set up safe solar viewing at the Freeport Farmer’s Market! Spectators were able to see the sun through telescopes on a gorgeous June day ☀️

This Saturday is the 3rd Saturday of the month. That means we'll be open to the public beginning at 8PM THIS Saturday (7/18)! Join us for an astronomy presentation at 8pm before we take to observing the skies above ⭐️
