Mosquito spray missions will be conducted tonight in the Bay Loop and Hammock Bay areas between an hour before sunset (6:46 PM), and 11:30 PM.
We have about 35 different mosquito species in our city, 2 of which are pictured below. The species on the left, with what I call “angry eyebrows” is called Aedes tormentor. Hmm. . . Wonder how they came up with that name? 🤔
We’re doing our best to give you some relief!

These mosquitoes are in for a whole heap of trouble! Well, mainly because this heap of mosquitoes is dead, but also because we’ll be spraying all their little friends tonight! Mosquito spraying will commence in the Jackson St area tonight and continue around the outskirts of the city limits to Riverwalk, Old Jolly Bay, Highway 20 East, The Bluffs, Owl’s Head, Business 331, and Highway 20 West. If you’re wondering if we cover your home, our area of jurisdiction is shown on the Walton County Property Appraiser map as the Freeport municipal boundaries. Everything outside these boundaries is still covered by Walton County Mosquito Control.

Big and small, the skeeters are out! Since the recent rains, our mosquito trap counts have increased further in number and species diversity. Spraying operations will begin in the Bay loop area and finish in Hammock Bay tonight between an hour before sunset (6:43 PM) and 11:30 PM.
I’d like to add that while this spray isn’t harmful to humans or pets (as long as you don’t have small insects for pets outside), I still turn the sprayer off upon seeing people outside. If you understand that the spray won’t harm you and want to be sprayed anyway, give me a thumbs up, and I’ll gladly blast away!
