🚧 Paving Tomorrow — Alleys 🚧
All alleys that have been milled will be paved tomorrow (Tuesday, June 9), weather permitting.
Access to and through these alleys will be limited throughout the day. If you park in or use a milled alley, please move your vehicle out beforehand and plan for restricted access — including for garbage pickup, deliveries, and getting in and out.
Thanks for your patience as we finish the job. We'll update you if the schedule shifts due to weather.

Interested in serving Freeland as Mayor?
The office of Mayor is currently vacant, and Borough Council is inviting residents who'd like to be considered for appointment to step forward.

There's no formal application — just send us a letter of interest letting Council know you'd like to serve and include your contact information. You're eligible if you're a registered voter who has lived in Freeland for at least one year.

Curious what the Mayor actually does? We've attached a plain-language guide to the office — it walks through the role, the responsibilities (the big one is oversight of the Police Department), and what's involved in serving.

How to be considered: Drop off or mail your letter of interest to the Freeland Borough Office at 526 Fern St., Freeland PA 18224. Letters are accepted on an ongoing basis until the seat is filled.

An informative newsletter was placed in with the garbage bills that were recently sent out, but we wanted to make sure that everyone was made aware, not just the property owners. Please pay special attention to Recreational Fires and Fireworks. We hope everyone has a happy and safe summer!

Today, Freeland Borough Code Enforcement, with assistance from the Freeland Police Department, conducted enforcement actions at a condemned property in our Downtown Business Overlay District to protect the health, safety, and welfare of our community.

This effort is part of a larger commitment to addressing unsafe, blighted, and non-compliant properties throughout the Borough. We know there are other properties that need attention, and we are asking for your help.

If you are a neighbor, tenant, business owner, or simply someone who notices potential code violations while out in town, please let us know. Common issues may include:

• Unsafe or deteriorating structures
• Excessive garbage or debris accumulation
• Unlicensed or uninspected rental properties
• Property maintenance violations
• Conditions that create health or safety concerns

For tenants, you have the right to live in a safe and properly maintained residence. If your landlord is not maintaining the property to required standards or if you believe a rental property is being occupied without the required inspections or approvals, we encourage you to contact the Borough. Your concerns will be reviewed and investigated.

Community involvement is one of the most effective tools we have to improve neighborhoods and protect property values. If you have information about a potential violation, please submit a complaint using our online form:

https://freelandpa.gov/documents/citizen-complaint-form-online/

Together, we can continue making Freeland a safer, cleaner, and stronger community for everyone.

https://freelandpa.gov/documents/citizen-complaint-form-online/

Freeland Borough is proud to announce that we have been awarded a Luzerne County LSA grant in the amount of $281,444 for the replacement of the roof on the Freeland Borough Municipal Building!

This important investment will not only protect and preserve our municipal building for years to come, but it also paves the way for a future solar panel installation as part of our long-term plan to improve energy efficiency and reduce operating costs for taxpayers.

We appreciate the support from Representative Jamie Walsh, Senator David G. Argall and everyone involved in helping secure this funding for our community.

The 2026 Storm Water and Paving work has begin! The areas in blue(paving) and green(stormwater infrastructure & paving) are being worked on currently and red is proposed for this year but not confirmed yet. If you live on these streets, keep an eye out for signage and communication from the contractor and/or the borough. The best way to stay informed is to sign up for SMS (text message) or Email notifications on the borough website at freelandpa.gov.

More information to come as the projects move along. The initial work is focused on the area around the public park on Front St. in preparation for the Memorial Day celebrations.

Greetings Residents, it's that time of year again. The Freeland Fire Department and the DPW will be cleaning up the Downtown Business Overlay District this week. May 13th will begin at 6pm at the intersection of Chestnut and Centre and proceed on Centre St. until the light at South. On May 14th, cleanup will begin at 6pm at the light and continue south on Centre St. to MMI.

While we will not be ticketing or towing, we are requesting that cars on Centre in the aforementioned areas be moved by 6pm on the day of the cleanup to allow crews access to the entire street.

Thank you!
