Today, June 14, we celebrate Flag Day!
At the firehouse across Monmouth County, our flag flies daily as a symbol of pride, community, and the freedom we swear to protect. If you are displaying Old Glory at your home today, here are a few quick reminders for proper flag etiquette:
🌞 Sunup to Sundown: Customarily, the flag should only be displayed from sunrise to sunset unless it is properly illuminated at night.
⛈️ Weather Check: Bring your flag indoors during severe weather, unless you are flying an all-weather nylon flag.
🔝 Position of Honor: When displayed with other flags, the U.S. flag should always be at the center and at the highest point of the group.
We wish everyone in Monmouth County a proud and safe Flag Day!

Please join us in celebrating the newest graduates from the Monmouth County Fire Academy!

We want to send a huge congratulations to Firefighter I Class 144 and Firefighter II Class 230. These brave individuals officially graduated after a lot of hard work. To earn this honor, the students went through tough physical training. They studied hard in the classroom and practiced on the drill-grounds. They showed true teamwork, discipline, and a strong desire to help others. We are very thankful for their choice to protect our communities.

We also want to thank the academy instructors, local fire departments, and the families who supported these recruits along the way.

To all the graduates, welcome to the fire service family. We wish you a very long, successful, and safe career. Thank you for stepping up to keep Monmouth County safe!

☀️ Pools, lakes, and beaches are open for the summer! Before you dive in, make sure your family follows these essential water safety rules:
🏊‍♂️ Designate a Water Watcher: Never leave children unattended around water. Assign a sober adult to keep eyes on the pool at all times—no phones, no distractions.
🛑 Fence it in: Ensure backyard pools are fully secured with a four-sided fence and a self-latching gate.
🦺 Wear life jackets: Weak or non-swimmers should always wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket, not just inflatable water wings.

Let's make it a fun, safe summer, Monmouth County! 🌊

Pet Heat Safety:🐾 If the pavement is too hot for your bare feet, it’s too hot for their paws!
Before heading out for a walk with your furry best friend, do the 7-Second Test: Place the back of your hand firmly against the pavement. If you can't comfortably hold it there for 7 seconds, it is too hot for your dog to walk on.
Stick to early morning or late evening walks, bring plenty of water for them, and keep those paws safe! 🐶🐱

❤️ June 1–7 is National CPR/AED Awareness Week! If someone nearby collapsed, would you know what to do?
About 70% of out-of-hospital cardiac arrests happen at home. Performing immediate CPR can double or triple a person’s chance of survival, and you don't need a medical degree to do it.
Remember these 2 simple steps for Hands-Only CPR:

1️⃣ Call 911 immediately.
2️⃣ Push hard and fast in the center of the chest to the beat of the song "Stayin' Alive" by the Bee Gees (or "Baby Shark"!). Seconds matter. You have the power to save a life!

🚨 When you see flashing lights on the highway, please, Move Over and Slow Down!
Summer travel means more cars on the road, increasing the danger for our firefighters, police officers, and tow truck drivers working on the shoulder. If you see emergency vehicles stopped on the side of the road:
1️⃣ Change lanes away from the emergency if it is safe to do so.
2️⃣ Slow down significantly below the speed limit if you cannot safely change lanes.

Help us get home safely to our families so we can keep protecting yours. ❤️

This Memorial Day, while we honor those who served and sacrificed for our freedom, let’s also keep our families and communities safe.

🍔 If you’re firing up the grill this weekend, follow these quick safety tips:

• Keep it Out: Only use grills outdoors and at least 10 feet away from your home or deck railings.
• Stay Present: Never leave a lit grill unattended.
• Clean Up: Remove grease or fat buildup from trays to prevent flare-ups.
• Be Prepared: Keep a spray bottle or fire extinguisher nearby just in case.

Let’s enjoy the holiday safely! 🕊️
