Freehold Borough Board of Health and Mayor’s Wellness Committee will host a community blood drive with the American Red Cross on June 23rd from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Freehold Elks Lodge, 73 East Main Street, Freehold.

“Hosting a blood drive coincides with Board of Health’s core values of giving back to the community,” said Alexis Goodman, RN, BSN, CPAN and Board Chairperson. “As an active Registered Nurse in this community, I see firsthand how critical blood products are. Giving blood is a simple act that takes less than an hour but can make a lifelong difference for someone in need.”
Blood is routinely transfused to patients with cancer and other diseases, premature babies, organ transplant recipients and trauma victims, according to the Red Cross.
“The short amount of time it takes to donate can mean a lifetime to a patient with a serious medical condition. We urge eligible donors to join us for our upcoming blood drive and help give hope, healing, and a second chance to people in our community.”
Donors of all blood types are needed, especially those with types O negative, B negative and A negative. According to the Red Cross, type O negative is the universal blood type that can be safely transfused to anyone, and is often used to treat trauma patients.
