May is National Stroke Awareness Month. B.E. F.A.S.T. is an acronym used to identify the six major warning signs of a stroke, requiring immediate medical attention. It stands for Balance, Eyes, Face, Arms, Speech, and Time. Recognizing these sudden symptoms and calling 911 immediately is crucial for reducing long-lasting effects, including brain damage.

Did you hear the big news? Today marks the 10 year anniversary of the launch of the Monmouth County Special Needs Registry!

Today we proudly celebrate 10 years of service – a decade of connection, compassion, and community.

For the past 10 years, the Registry has helped ensure that individuals with special needs are recognized, understood, and supported by first responders when it matters most. The Registry has strengthened communication, enhanced safety, and provided comfort to families and caregivers across our communities. We currently have over 1,850 registrants signed up!

This milestone is not just about the years; it’s about the difference in the lives of those we’ve reached, the bonds built between first responders and the individuals they serve, and a commitment to making our communities more inclusive for everyone.

The Registry has been used as the model for the creation of other registtires not only across the state, but nationwide as well!

A special thank-you to our local liaisons, families, advocates, first responders, and community partners who have been so crucial in making the Registry such a success and help spreading the word about who we are and what we do. We look forward to reaching even more families and strengthening those existing connections for many years to come.

Thank you to the Borough of Tinton Falls Police Department for creating an extremely informative video regarding the Blue Envelope Program.

The Blue Envelope Program is designed to create safer and more positive interactions between law enforcement officers and individuals with autism during traffic stops. The program provides autistic drivers with a distinct blue envelope to store essential documents such as their driver’s license, registration, and insurance information. The envelope also includes instructions to inform officers that the driver is on the autism spectrum, providing specific communication tips to reduce the likelihood of misunderstandings or escalations.

The Blue Envelope Program is a county-wide program and are available within every town's local police department. We would like to thank all our local police departments for their participation, as well as the Monmouth County Police Chiefs Association for their support and sponsorship of this vital program to the autism community.
