From responding to fires and medical emergencies to providing mutual aid during major incidents across the state, our Watsonville firefighters are always ready to answer the call.

This month, we thank the Watsonville Fire Department for their continued commitment to protecting our residents, businesses, and community. We appreciate all that you do for Watsonville, today and throughout the year.

𝗔 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗺𝗼𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗺 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲
Smoke alarms are your first line of defense in a home fire, providing the early warning you need to safely escape. Taking just a few minutes each month to make sure your alarms are working can help protect your family and your home.

𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼:
• Test your smoke alarms every month.
• Replace batteries at least once a year, or whenever the alarm chirps.
• Replace the entire smoke alarm every 10 years, or according to the manufacturer's recommendations.
• Install smoke alarms inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home.

A working smoke alarm can provide the extra seconds that make all the difference during an emergency. Stay prepared, stay safe, and help protect those you love.

Las alarmas de humo son su primera línea de defensa en caso de un incendio en el hogar, ya que proporcionan una alerta temprana que puede darle el tiempo necesario para salir de manera segura. Yesterday evening, our Watsonville Fire Department crews responded to an incident involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Our firefighters provided medical aid at the scene alongside AMR before the patient was transported by CALSTAR to a trauma center.

Incidents like this are an important reminder of the role our firefighters play every day. Whether responding to a fire, medical emergency, traffic incident, or other call for help, our crews are ready to provide care when our community needs it most.

We also want to remind everyone to stay alert and look out for one another on the road. Drivers, please give bicyclists plenty of space and stay alert for cyclists sharing the roadway. Bicyclists, stay visible, follow traffic laws, and remain aware of the vehicles around you.

A few extra seconds of caution can help keep everyone safe.

Ayer por la tarde, equipos del Departamento de Bomberos de Watsonville respondieron a un incidente que involucró a un vehículo y un ciclista. Nuestros bomberos brindaron atención médica en el lugar junto con AMR antes de que el paciente fuera trasladado por CALSTAR a un centro de trauma.

Incidentes como este son un importante recordatorio del papel que desempeñan nuestros bomberos todos los días. Ya sea respondiendo a un incendio, una emergencia médica, un incidente de tránsito u otra llamada de auxilio, nuestros equipos están preparados para brindar atención cuando nuestra comunidad más lo necesita.

Our Watsonville Fire Department continues to answer the call wherever help is needed.

This week, one of our crews returned after spending five days assigned to the California Chute Fire as part of a Mutual Aid Strike Team. Working alongside firefighters from Santa Cruz County Fire, Central Fire District, Santa Cruz Fire Department, Scotts Valley Fire Department, and Zayante Fire Protection District, they served as part of an immediate need team, helping protect communities and support firefighting operations.

As soon as they wrapped up their assignment, a second Watsonville Fire Department strike team deployed Tuesday morning to the Mines Fire, where they assisted with firefighting efforts before returning home today.

We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, professionalism, and commitment our firefighters demonstrate, both here at home and across California.

Welcome home, and thank you for your service.

Nuestro Departamento de Bomberos de Watsonville continúa respondiendo al llamado dondequiera que se necesite ayuda.

Esta semana, una de nuestras cuadrillas regresó después de pasar cinco días asignada al incendio California Chute como parte de un Equipo de Ataque de Ayuda Mutua. Trabajando junto a bomberos de Santa Cruz County Fire, Central Fire District, Santa Cruz Fire Department, Scotts Valley Fire Department y Zayante Fire Protection District, formaron parte de un equipo de respuesta inmediata que ayudó a proteger a las comunidades y apoyar las labores de combate del incendio.

Tan pronto como concluyeron esa asignación, un segundo Equipo de Ataque del Departamento de Bomberos de Watsonville fue desplegado el martes por la mañana al incendio Mines, donde colaboró en las labores de extinción antes de regresar a casa hoy.

Estamos profundamente agradecidos por la dedicación, el profesionalismo y el compromiso que nuestros bomberos demuestran, tanto aquí en nuestra comunidad como en todo California.

The Watsonville Fire Department is seeking an experienced fire service professional to join our command staff as a Battalion Chief.

This 56-hour operational position follows a 48/96 schedule and offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated team while helping shape the future of our department. Applicants may also be considered for administrative assignments as opportunities become available.

The position offers a maximum top-step salary of $212,633.44, including incentives, plus a 3% cost-of-living adjustment effective this month.

Starting today, the state-approved Safe & Sane Fireworks are available for purchase from authorized vendors in the City of Watsonville. These are the only types of fireworks allowed to be ignited in our City from July 1 through midnight on July 5.

If you plan to use Safe & Sane fireworks this Independence Day, please follow these safety tips:

• Always read directions
• Have an adult present
• Only use fireworks outdoors
• Never use fireworks near dry grass or other flammable materials
• Light one firework at a time
• Keep a bucket of water and a hose nearby

Fireworks that do not have the State Fire Marshal’s seal of approval are illegal. To report the use of illegal fireworks, call 831-471-1151.

Watsonville residents, please note that the Police and Fire Community Town Hall scheduled for Monday, June 29, from 3:30PM to 5PM, has been canceled.

There is still time to register for one of Watsonville's upcoming public safety town hall meetings!

Our Police and Fire Chiefs are coming together to host two community town hall meetings focused on the future of public safety in Watsonville.

These conversations will help guide future priorities, services, emergency response efforts, and community programs as we continue building a safer and stronger community.

Watsonville residents are invited to attend one of the following meetings:
• Wednesday, June 24, from 5:30PM to 7PM
• Monday, June 29, from 3:30PM to 5PM

Both meetings will take place in the Community Room on the top floor of Civic Plaza, 275 Main Street. Pizza, childcare, and Spanish interpretation will be provided. The first 50 attendees at each meeting will also receive a free kids’ helmet. Please come prepared with your child’s helmet size.
