"Open burning" is the burning of unwanted materials such as paper, trees, brush, leaves, grass, and other debris where smoke and other emissions are released directly into the air. During open burning, air pollutants do not pass through a chimney or stack.

A Cheboygan man is being held on a $1 million bond after being charged with starting a fire that burned nearly 40 acres of a nature preserve.

Sean Huddleston, a 29-year-old man, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on four charges, including arson.

There isn't a drop of rain the forecast for quite a long time! Not to say we couldn't get a pop up storm here or there, but rain chances will be hard to come by for the next 10 days here in Michigan.

No burning again today. Map updates at 10 am however we have not recieved any rain

Thanks to a blocking pattern… late May into early June is appearing to be drier than normal for the Great Lakes region. This not only limit our chances for any significant low pressure systems, but it will also plant us firmly within a zone of “nice” weather for awhile. Expect stable temperatures in the 60s and 70s to continue for several more days!

ELEVATED fire danger is expected across much of northern lower Michigan today as dry vegetation and low relative humidity combine with gusty east winds. Please check the Michigan DNR website for burn restrictions.
