Wildflower Wednesday this week isn’t a wildflower at all, but a VINE. This scarlet Leather-flower is a native Texan, right down to the scientific name (Clematis texensis) and is one of the most whimsical botanical offerings in the park at present! You’re more likely to see this plant’s relative, the purple Pitcher’s Leather-flower (more on that later…) as the scarlet clematis typically prefers the limestone plains of the Edward’s Plateau, but if you’re lucky you might spot scarlet clematis on your next loop trail hike!

Wildflower Wednesday this week is all about our lovely friends, the phlox! This Drummond’s Phlox has been peering up at park rangers and visitors alike in April and May, and we have so enjoyed spotting it on trails. Pretty as it is, we ask our visitors to remember to leave flowers where they are and refrain from collecting or picking blooms around the park!

**UPDATE: 5/27/2026, 0830, All trails are now open.

We are closing our elevated trails (Summit, Echo Canyon & Turkey Pass) due to thunderstorms coming right at us. It is forecasted to storm until at least 9pm, so these trails will remain closed until at least tomorrow morning when we can reassess. We'll update this post when trails dry out enough to be safe to climb on.

Sorry friends, fans, and folks of The Rock- Saturday night’s Star Party has been cancelled due to predictions of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in the area.

Enchanted Rock will be under a flood watch for the duration of Memorial Day Weekend.

Please be careful when traveling this weekend, especially in areas with low water crossings! We ask our visitors to remember: Turn Around, Don’t Drown!

WINECUP Wildflower Wednesday!

This sweet little number is a Texas staple, and they’ve been showing off EXTRA loud and proud this spring. With their jewel-like flower and unassuming foliage, winecups dot the meadows and roadsides of our region in cheerful splashes of color. Have you been seeing these flowers in your yard this year?
