You can help a child build resilience by:
• Using a daily “feelings check-in,” which can build emotional awareness and coping skills. What was a high point today? What was hard today? How did you handle that?
• Practicing “growth mindset” language. For instance, when a child says, “I can’t do this,” add the word “yet.” That reframes the setback as temporary and reminds children that mistakes help our brains grow.
• Role-playing problem-solving by acting out common challenges (losing a game or having an argument with a friend) and brainstorming 3 ways to handle the situation. That strengthens flexible thinking and confidence before real stress happens.
